A little later, however, he found himself as an advisor’ to Chitrlie Chaplin on the filming of “Al Woman of Paris.” During the making of that picture Mr. Men- jou and Mr.~Bell became - very godd friends, and one day Mr. Beil confided to Mr. Menjou that he would like to bécome a di- rector. Mr. Menjou replied that he thought Mr. Bell. had the qualifications of a good director. Then Mr. Bell told Mr. Menjou abyut “The King;’ Mr. :Menjou lik@d the story and placed himself |: under option to Mr. Bell to make the picture. “A Woman of Paris” was finjghed, Mr. Bell went to every preducer in Hollywood and the East, but was unable to sell his “Adolphe » Menjou is all apd maybe the story is OK.” they told him, “but who ‘are/you?” Well, about all Mr, Bell could say at the time. was, “I’m Monta i But that wasn’t sufficient.
