An- other of Huter’s sons, Leonard, Leonard Richardson, son of Tom, ‘.and Cecil Fulkerson, mine foreman, were severely gassed, and little hope is held for their lives. The explosions were not heard on the surface, but the miners felt a slight jar which they knew could be caused by nothing but an unusual explosion, Later a puff of smoke found its way out of the shaft, giv- ing the only visible signs of the dis- aster below. A CUMPLETE LINE CAN BE HAD CHILDREN ON VESSEL (By Associated Press) WEST PALM BEACH, Fila., Feb. 17.—One barge lies on the floor of the Atlantie Ocean while another is dangerously exposed to the running seas on a sand bar a half mile north of the Lake Worth inlet near here. The crafts were being towed south by the tug Sonittep of Jacksonville when they grounded. A rescue party is being organized to save a woman and two children said to be on one of the barges. ~ The total damage could not defi- nitely be estimated late today by of- ficials of the Atlantic Lumber and Supply Company, consignees, but it is known that it wil run into many thousands of dollars. The barge, which went to pieces and sank early today, was laden with a heavy cargo of oak flooring lumber. ‘The other tug, seen drifting and pounding a short distance away, car- ried a similar load of high priced ma- terial. Following the marine crash the tug broke from the stranded barges and after the pilot found he could be of no important aid to the crafts, entered the inlet and anchored. Efforts are being rushed late this afternoon by port officials and sea- men familiar with the currents of the ocean where the barges stranded, .« to salvage the drifting barge.
