STATE OF MINNESOTA, COUNTY OF ITASCA-—-ss Notice is hereby given, that a peti- tion has been filed in my office for the establishment, construction and im- provement Of the state rural highway described in the copy of the said pe- tition hereto attached; that said peti- tion will be considered and heard by and before the county board of Itasca county, Minnesota, at the county com- missioners’ room in the county court house in the Village of Grand Rapids, in said county and State on the 28th day of May, 1913, at 2 o'clock p. m., and that a true copy of said petition is as follows, to-wit: Petition for State Rural Highway Under Chapter 254 laws of 1911 To Honorable County Board of Itasca County, in the State of Minnesota: represent Your petitioners respectfully and show: 1. That they are the owners of the lands described after their respective signatures hereto, and that said lands So owned by your petitioners will be liable to be affected by assessed for the expense of the establishment, con- struction and improvement of the state rural highway hereinafter described, Il. That the establishment, construc- tion and improvement and each of the same, of such highway, will be a public benefit and will promote the public health, and that the necessity therefor is as follow That there is no sufficient road and for many miles no road whatever for more than two hundred settlers by whic they can reach the county seat, or enable them to get from their farms to a place of suitable market. That said highway will supply the needs of these settlers; that it will drain land along the said road needing drainage, and that there is now no highway run- ning in a parallel direction within ten on either side of said proposed miles highway. Ill. That your petitioners desire to have such state rural highway estab- lished, constructed and improved, in- eluding all necessary ditches, drains, culverts and bridges in the following ; manner: Standard 20 foot road bed, surfacing 16 feet in width with gravel or other suitable material that may be avail- able. maximum grades of 6 per cent. Corrugated metal culverts and steel and concrete bridges. In accordance with the standard specifications of the State Highway Commission for the year 1912, for roads of that character, and for bridges and culverts of the char- acter required. IV. That the proposed starting point, route and termini of such state rural highway are as follows: A complete description attached and made a part of this document. Description of State Rural Highway No. 4, Itasca County, Minn. Beginning at a point of intersection of the Itasca county line and a line par- allel and distant 67 feet from the north side of the Great Northern right of way in Section 36, Twp. 53, Rg. 22, thence running in a northwesterly course for 2 distance of approximately 2000 feet parallel to the Great Northern right of way, thence in a southwesterly direc- tion 34 ft. to a point 33 ft. distant from the said north side of the Great North- ern right of w thence continuing in @ northwesterly direction parallel to and distant 33 feet from said Great North- ern right of way through Sections 35, 26, 27, 28, 21, 20, 17 18 and 7 to Swan River in the southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of said Section 7, Twp. 53, Re. thence in a westerl course to an intersection with the 16th line approximately 500 feet west of the southeast corner of the northeast quarter of the southeast quarter, Section 12, Twp. 53, Rg. 23, thence west along the 16th line in the south one-half of Sec- tions 12, 11, 10 to the line between Sections 9 and 10, thence north along the line between 9 and 10, 3 and 4 to the northeast corner of ction 4 of said Township 53, Range 23, thence west along Township line to the southwest corner, Section 34, Twp. 54, Rg. 23, thence north along the line between Sections 33 and 34 to the northeast cor- ner of Section 33, hence west 90 rods and there terminating at the south limits of the Village of Warba. That copies of the general plan and detailed estimate of the cost of said proposed state rural highway are hereto appended and made a part hereof, and duplicate copies of such | Seneral plan and detailed estimate were, previous to the signing hereof, filed with the auditor of said Itasea county, and with the State Highway Commission. Wherefore, your petitioners ask that your Honorable Body approve this peti- tion, and after its approval by the State Highway Commission, that you proceed as by law provided for the establishment, construction and im- provement herein Set forth. ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION Or Elanto Company Know All Men By These Presents, tha We, the undersigned, do hereby associate ourselves together for the purpose of forming a corporation under and by vir- tue of the provisions of the Revised Laws of the State of Minnseota for the year 1905, and all acts amendatory thereof and supplementary thereto and adopt the following articles of incorpor> ‘| ation, Article 1. The name of said corporation shall be Elanto Company and the general nature of its business shall be to buy, sell, lease, and deal in real estate and per- sonal property of all kinds and nature whasvever and to engage in, conduct and carry on a general mercantile busi- Ness and to operate boarding houses in the State of Minnesota and elsewhere, and the principal place of the same shall be the Village of Nash- wauk, Itasca County, Minnesota, Article I. The period of its duration shall be twenty-five years from the date of the incorporation, Article tl. y The names and place of residence of the incorporators are John A. Koski, Venni Kari and Charles Halme, all of Nashwauk, Minnesota. Article IV. Sec. I The management of its affairs shall be vested in a board of directors and its officers, each of whom _ shall hold office for six months or until his successor is elected and qualified, which board of directors and officers shall be elected from and by its stockholders at each serhi-annual meeting to be held on the last Saturday of July and January of each year, beginning the year 1913. Sec. 2. The names and addresses of those composing the board of directors and officers until the first election shall be John A. A meeting of the school board of school district No. One was held in the board’s office in the Central school building at 2:30 p. m. C. E. Burgess, C. H. Dick- inson and J. D. Doran were present. The minutes of the meetings held March 17, March 24, April 14 and April 28 were read and approved. A petition for a new building for the Max school was read and placed on file. Owing to the delay in procuring plans for the new Blackberry school building it was moved that the date of opening bids for the building of said school house be changed from May 12th to May 19th. The motion was carried. The resignation of Arthur C. Davis as teacher of he tSquaw Lake school, which took effect May 2nd, was re- ceived and was, upon motion, accepted.
