Grand Rapids, Minnesota, August 26, 1912. A meeting of the school board of School District No. One was held in the board's office at eight o'clock p. m. All members of the borad were present. The minutes of the meeting of August 19th were read and approved. Bids for building cement sidewalks at the high school grounds were received as follows: J. S. Lofber, 80 cents per square yard; Edward Hachey, 75 cents per square yard. The bid of Edward Hachey was, upon motion, accepted. C. R. Jackson appeared at the meet— ing and requested the board to have # fence built around the grounds of the Forest Lake school. Action on the request was deferred to some later meeting. Clerk Doran was authorized to pur- chase the neecssary material and em- Ploy the necessary labor to have new chimneys built on the Shoal Lake and Arbo schools. Bernard Smith was employed to dig: @ well at the Sturgeon Lake school. Director Burgess and Superintendent Freeman reported that during the last week they visited the schools in the western part of the district, and Direc- tor Burgess reported, as representative of the school board, he had transacted business as follows: A building was rented for the Max school at $8.00 per month. Arrangements were made to have the Squaw school house and the grounds cleaned. Cleaning and repair- ing at the Vance school were arranged for. At the Delap school, arrangements were made for cleaning the yard and repairing the heating plant, and notices were posted calling for bids for fur- nishing 20 cords of 14 inch wood. No- tices for wood bids were posted at the Bergville and Cunningham schools, No- tices for bids for lowering, painting and. plastering the Houpt school were post- ed. Arrangements were made for clear- ing the grounds for the new Wirt school house. Notices were posted cal- ling for repair work on the foundation of the Delap school. A location in the SE 1-4 of the NW 1-4, Section 17, Township 148, Range 28, was decided up- on for the Dunbar Lake school house and notices were posted calling for bids for building a log school house at said location. Owing to the fact that there was an error in the notice posted in the vil- lage of Cohasset, calling for bids for transporting high school pupils from Co- hasset to Grand Rapids, it was moved that the action of the board at its meet- |ing of August 19th, in the matter of. |the Cohasset-Grand Rapids transporta- tion, be reconsidered, that all bids be rejected and that notice be given to all bidders that new bids will be re- ecived up until ten o’clock a. m. of Saturday, August 31st, for transporting |all high school pupils residing at Co- hasset to the Grand Rapids High school.
