TRAINING SCHOOL REPORT House Eliminates Paragraph Referring to Superintendent. The lower house of the legislature adopted the report of the special inves- tigating committee on the Red Wing training school, after eliminating the paragraph demanding the resignation of Superintendent Whittier and some of the subordinates. Incidentally, a de mand was made for the resignation of the members of the board of con- trol and the proceedings ended with au hour of “rough house,” in which half of the members were on the floor all the time demanding recognition. The house passed Senator A. L. Hanson’s bill prohibiting sale of mait except in licensed drinking places; Senator O. A. Lende’s bill giving the Tight of civil action against saloon- keepers for damages inflicted by in- toxicated persons when liquor is sold Representative Robert C. Dunn’s anti-roadhouse bill. EXTRA SESSION UNLIKELY Reapportionment in Minnesota Dead for Two Years. The Hanson reapportionment bili was unceremoniously killed by the state senate so quickly that it was all over before some of those present knew what happened. It is generally understood that Govy- ernor Eberhart will not call an extra session to take up reapportionment. The governor has made no definite statement, however. In reply to a di- rect question he said: “I am satisfied no reapportionment bill will be passed by this senate. If it continues to appear that the pass- age of such a bill now is futile it would be a waste of the public funds to call an extra session.” FARMERS ADOPT RESOLUTION Minnesotans Voice Protest Against Canadian Reciprocity. A resolution opposing the reciprocity bill now pending in congrass was passed by 250 farmers from ail parts of Minnesota in session at the old capitol at St. Paul. The statement will be taken to Washington by a del- egation of farmers. A resolution was also adopted call- ing upon the chairman to appoint a committee of three to bring the reso- lution of protest against the Canadian reciprocity treaty before the Minne- sota legislature, with the request that it be adopted and forwarded to con- gress in the form of a concurrent reso- lution. GOES BACK TO THE SENATE Minnesota House Amends and Passes Recall Bill. The recall bill is again up in the senate. It was passed by the house by a vote of 104 to 14, but it was amended so that it will be necessary for the senate to repass it. That the Crane distance tariff bill, a duplicate of the Cashman measure; passed by the house, will be reported to the senate for indefinite postpone- ment by the committee on railroads, became evident at a meeting of the eommittea.
