Her home durifg the past ten years has been in Oklahoma City. For many years she ‘was county superintendent of schools of Itasca county, and for some time was in the postoffiee while her late husband fwas postmaster. Carpenter was suddenly taken down with appendicitis Friday morning and was taken to Duluth the ame afternoon where he was operat- ed on that evening. The operation was successful and he is getting along nicely, but he will not be phy- sically able to return to Grand Rap- ids until about September 1. Minnie Durand Dead. Minnie, the twenty-year-old daught- er of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Durand, died from the effects of an operation for appendicitis Thursday morning. Minnie Durand was born at Dallas, Wis., February 18, 1890, and after living there for sometime, removed with her family to Stephen, Minn. She came to Grand Rapids apout four years ago, being employed as stenographer in different offices and for the past two years was employed in the Reishus-Remer Land.company’s office. Of a light hearted, merry disposi- tion she, made many friends and her demise will be sincerely mourned by all. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o’clock, Saturday after- noon by Rev. Dr. S. G. Briggs and interment took place in Itasca cem- etery, the body being followed to its last resting place by a large follow- ing of friends. Besides a mother and father, she leaves four sisters and one brother to mourn her loss.
