Grand Rapids, Minn In accordance with the provisions of section 424 of the Revised Laws of 1905 the board of county commissioners of Itasca county, Minnesota, met at the court house in the village of Grand Rapids this 1lth day of July, 1910, at ‘ten o’clock, a. m. Roll call: All members of the board present. The matter of a drainage ditch on the Thompson Road near Deer River was referred to the County Surveyor, who ‘was instructed to make report to the board with the estimate cost of the con- dtruction of said ditch. Nels Anderson of the town of Feeley ¢ame before the board and stated that in the construction of County Road No. 27. His well will be destroy- ed the same being located in the mid- die of the right-of-way of said road, and also a portion of his clearing would be taken for the road purposes and re- quested the board to allow damages for the same. The members of the board being familiar with the conditions Com- missioner Trebilcock moved that Nels Andreson be allowed the sum of $50.0 in fult for damages from the construction of said road across, his land in section 10 of Township 54, Range 23, and that the County Auditor be instructed to draw a warrant upon the County Road & Bridge Fund in favor of said Nels Anderson for the amount. The motion was seconded by Commissioner King and carried \by unanimous vote. George Harding came before the board and stated that in executing his contract for the construction of County road from Deer River village to Dumas Sid- ing it was necessary to haul some of the earth more than 700 feet, and as his contract provided that in case he had to haul the earth more than 700 feet he would be allowed extra compensation for such overhaul, he reqeusted that the board fix his compensation for such overhaul. Upon motion the matter was referred to the County Surveyor. Chairman McWilliams appointed Com- miggioners Trebilcock, Mullins and O’Brien a committee to examine the work done under the Jasper M. Pogue contract upon County Road No 21, known as the Feeley-Bovey Road. Inspector of mines, P. L. Ramauist, appeared before the Board and request- ed that his salary be increased owing to the extra amount of attention requir- ed to be given to the mines on account of the increase in mining operations in} the county. After careful consideration: of the matter Commissioner Trebilcock moved that <he salury of tne Inspector of Mines be increased from $600.00 to $1,000.00 per annum, the increase to take effect and date from the Ist day of |July, 1910. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Mullins and carried ly unanimous vote. Commissioner King moved that the sum of $300.00 be appropriated from the County Road & Bridge Fund to the town of Alvwood to “id said Town in fe repair and construction of roads in said town. $200.00 of said amount to ‘be expended on the road from center section nine (9) and running towords A. H. Delap’s place, and $100.00 on the road running north from section nine (9). The motion was seconded by Com- missioner O’Brien and carried by unani- mous vote. Commissioner King moved that the County Surveyor be instructed to make & survey and plat of a portion of the Bena-Popple road in Township 148, Rang 27, ‘where said road leaves the line and runs through a small bog. The motion was duly seconded and carried. An adjournament was then taken to gne o’clock, p. m. Pursuant to adjournment the board ‘again met at one o'clock, p. m. All members of the board present. The County Auditor was instructed to ‘advertise for bids for the construction of a highway known and designated as County Road No. 74, beginning at the one-sixteenth post one quarter mile north pf the southeast corner of section 16, Township 150, Range 27 and running thence north on section line to the north east corner of said section; thence east along section line to the northeast cor- ner of section 17; Township 150, Range 26. Said road to be constructed accord- ing to plans and specifications prermred by the County Surveyor and filed in the office of the County Auditor. Commissioner Trebilcock moved that Commissioner King be instructed to di- rect the necessary repairs upon the Road. .The amount of said re- Read. The. Blomberg, Marcell Minne- sota, that if his contract for work on the State road is not completed in twenty days said contract will be can- celled. Commissioner King moved that the Chairman appoint a committee of three to examine and ascertain the necessary (work in the towns of Third River, Nore, Moose Park and Good Hope. The mo- fion was seconded by Commissioner O’Brien and carried by unanimous vote. Chairman McWilliams then appointed Commissioners King, O’Brien and Mul- fins as such committee. The petition of J. D. Hinegardner as the owner of the NW% of NE\% and S% of NE% of section 29, Township 55, Range 25 requesting that said lands SUBSCRIBE FOR THE GRAND RAPIDS HERALD-REVIEW. Rapids was then presented and read. Commissioner O’Brien moved the adop- tion of the following resolution. ‘“Where- as, on the 5th day of July, 1910, a pe- tition signed by the owner of the land hefeinafter described was filed in the office of the County Auditor of Itasca county, Minnesota, praying that an ord- er be made by the board of county com- the, following school missioners of said county detaching said lands from the village of Grand Rapids, the said tracts of land included in said petition being described as follows, to-wit: NW% of NE\% and S% of NE%, Section 29; Township 55, Range 25. Therefore, be it resolved and it is hereby ordered that said petition be heard at a meeting of this Board to be held at-the County court house in the village of Grand Rapids in said coun ty on Thursday the first day of Sep- tember, 1910, 1910, at ten o’clock a. m., at which time and place this board will hear all persons interested for or against the granting of said petition. Further, that the County Auditor shall cause the proper notice of said hearing to be served upon the President of said vil- lage or the Recorder thereof and to be Published in the official paper of said village, as provided by law.’’ The mo- tion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seeonded by Commission- er Trebilcock and carried by unanimous vote. A petition was presented for the or- ganization of a new school district to be composed of all of sections 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 22, 28, 24, 25, 26, 27, 34, 35 and 36 of Township 55, Range 25. Commissioner Mullins moved the adoption of the following resolution. ‘Whereas, a petition was, on the 11th day of July, 1910, presented to the coun- ty board of Itasca county, Minnesota, purporting to be signed by a majority of the freeholders qualified to vote for school officers residing in the territory hereinafter described, and not approved by the Superintendent of schools of said county, praying that a new com- mon School district be out of that certain territory in said county com- posed of those tracts of land describ- ed as follwos, to-wit: All of section 1, 2,,B, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 34, 35, and 36 in Township 55, Range 25, for the reasons following, to-wit: That the schools in the propos- ed new district do not receive proper attention from the present school man- agement and that we believe a smaller school district woud be advisable, and stating that the number of persons who reside in said territory is 150; the names of all children of school age who re- side in said territory and the present existing school districts in which each of said children lives; and that said territory lies within the boundaries of districts in said pounty, to-wit: school district No. One in Which two of said children live, and school district No. Two in which twenty- five of said children live. It is there- fore resolved, that said petition be heard at a meeting of this board to be held at the county court house in the village of Grand Rapids in said county, on Wednesday the 10th day of August, 1910, at ten o’clock a. m., at which time and place this Board will hear all per- sons interested and their evidence and arguments, for and against the grant- ing of said petition. A petition was presented for the es- tablishment of a highway beginning at the section corner at the SE corner of section 28, Township 54, Range 23 and running thence east on section line to the point twhere said secfion line in- tersects the south boundary of the right- of-way of the Great Northern Railway; Thence in a southeasterly direction par- allel with and along side of the south boundary of said right-of-way to a point where said right-of-way of said Railway intersects the one-eighth {line one-quarter mile south of the section line on the north side of section 34 of said town- ship; thence east on eighth line to the east side of section 35 of said township; thence north on section line between sections 35 and 36 of said township to the northeast corner of said section [85: thence east on section line between sec- tions 25 ‘and 36 of said township and continuing east on section line between sections 30 and 81 and 29 and 32 of township 54, range 22 to }the point where said section line intersects the west boundary line of the right-of-way of the Great Northern /Railway, being known as the Hibbing branch of said \tailway, and ‘to be connected with other roads as follows: County road No. 62 atthe point of beginning and County Road No. 41 at point of termination, |and terminating at point of intersection with County Road No, 41. Commissioner O’Brien moved that a hearing be had upon sald petition at the court house in Grand ‘Rapids on Thurs- day the first day of September, 1910, at ten ‘o’clock a. m. That jNeil Mullins, ™M. McWilfiams, members of, this board be a committee to examine the route of said road; that sald committee meet at the point of 'be- ginning of said route on (Monday the 29th day of August, 1910, at ten o’clock m., for the ‘purpose of examing the route of said road and that said commit- tee | make report to this board at the time set for hearing upon said petition. Further, that said highway and all pro- ceedings in connection with the es- tablishntent of the same be designated and referred to as County road No. 86. Commissioner Trebilcuck moved that the sum of $1,000.00 be approprilkted from the County Road ‘« Bridge Fund, to, be expended under tke direction of Commssiioner McWilliams in the } con- struction of County Road No. 63. The motion was seconded by Commissioner O’Brien and carried by unanimous vote. Commissioner Mullins moved that the county .auditor be instructed to adver- tise for bids for the construction of County Road No. 68, beginning at the section corner of sections 29, 30, 31, and 32 ,Township 55, Range 25 and running thence south one mile to the town line etween townships 54 and 55 of range 25. The motion was seconded by Commis- sioner O’Brien and carried by unanimous vote. Upon motion of Commissioner Trebil- cock seconded by Commissioner Mullins the minutes of the last meeting were ‘approved as read by unanimous vote.
