| —— OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS —OF THE— VILLAGE COUNCIL —OF THE— Village of Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids, Minn., Aug. 9, 1909 A regular meeting of the Village Council. was. held at the council room. Upon being called to order, Pres. Bos- sard and Trustees Leroux, Remer and Hughes responded to roll call. On motion Keo Leroux was appointed Recorder pro tem. On motion duly made and carried, a resolution was adopted by a un- animous vote, ordering certain side- walks to be constructed in the vil- lage, and that said resolution be pub- lished according to law, and that a copy of said resolution be served up- on the owners of the property front- ing on the respective streets, in ac- cordance with the statutes in such casq made and provided. Bids were received for the con- struction of a sewer on Hoffman Ave. and on Ninth street, and on motion the contract was awarded to James Passard at $1601.80, and his contract bond fixed in the sum of $2,000.00. Moved and seconded that Wm. Hoolihan be, furnished electric light, he to pay the expense of the line from’ his property line to his house, same to be rebated to him by apply- ing on his light account. The street committee was instruct- -ed to investigate the fill and grade on Sleeper avenue and Ninth street. Moved and carried that the street committee be authorized to have the water main connections on Third street changed to conform with the or dinances of the village. Moved and carried that the Light Committee be authorized, with power to act, to make the necessary changes on the electric line on Third street. On motion the council adjourned. The work of completing the tool house shall be within thirty days after the awarding of contract. The work of completing the Horse Shoe Lake road shall be within forty days after the awarding of the con- tract, The work of completing the work upon the Hill City road and the State road shall not be later than October 15th, 1909. * Due allowance shall be made on account of inclement weather. Plans and specifications for each of the above propositions are on file in the office of town clerk in the town hall in the village of Grand Rapids, and in the office of Super- visor McEwan (J. 8. Gole’s office) in the said village of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. A bond with two or more sureties for double the contract price must be furnished by the contractor awarded the contract before the con- tract is executed. Notice—Attached to the tenures and offers for the building and com- pletion of the Hill City road may be, if the bidder elects, a proposition to grade Leland avenue in the vil- lage of Grand Rapids, from the south side ofthe Mississippi bridge to the commencement of said road as here- inafter set forth, said street to be rounded up to a width of forty feet and crushed rock or gravel to the depth of eight inches be spread over the road bed a width of thirty-five feet. No certified check is required upon this: estimate or tenure, but only bidders making offer to con- struct the new road will be allowed to make tenure to do this work. Sealed bids will be received by the Village Council of the Village of Calumet, Minnesota, at the office of the Village Clerk in said village up to eight o’clock p. m. of August 24th 1909, for the construction of the fol- lowing sidewalks. Beginning at the northwest corner of lot seventeen, block seven, and running north a distance of three hundred ninety-one feet on the east side of Gary street, said walk to be constructed of two inch pine or birch plank of suitable widths and twelve feet in length laid crosswise on four stringers of the same mater- ial, two by six inches in dimension with ends overlapping eight inches firmly spiked together and laid on sufficient posts or blocking for the proper support of said walk, surface plank to be securly spiked to sleep- ers with ends cut to straight line and all finished in a workmanlike manner. . Beginning at the northwest corner of lot eleven, block four and running east a distance of five hundred eigh- ty-four feet on the south side of Sec- ond avenue, said walk to be construct ed of two inch pine or birch plank eight feet in length and of suitable widths, laid crosswise on three stringers, dimensioned two by six in- ches and of the same grade of ma- terial, laid on sufficient posts or blocking for proper support of said walk, surface plank to be securely spiked to the sleepers with ends cut to straight line and all finished in a workmanlike manner. The total length of above side- walks is figured exclusive’ of street and alley crossings. All bids shall cover the furnishing of all material and cost of labor of what-so-ever nature for entire com- pletion of said walks. The Village Council will meet in the council chamber in the Village of Calumet on the 24th of August at eight o’clock p. m. for the purpose of opening and consideration of any and all bids, reserving, however, the right to reject any and all bids. Payment for the above work is to be made in Village orders in thrée annual installments, in accordance with chapter 167, G. L. 1901. An ordinance relating to the construc: tion of sidewalks on the public streets and avenues of the village of Cohasset. The Village Council of the Village of Cohasset do ordain as follows: Section 1—When any public street or avenue in the Village of Cohasset shall hereafter be improved by the construction: of a sidewalk or side- walks thereon, whether upon motion or petition of the owners of the prop- erty fronting thereon or upon motion of the Village Council, such im- provement shall be made as perscrib- ed by this ordinance. Section 2—The following streets an avenues, and portions thereof, in said village, are hereby designated as be- ing within the “business district” of said village, within the meaning of this ordinance: Columbia avenue from State street westerly to Glen- wood Addition, Main street. All other streets and avenues in the vil- lage, and portions thereof are desig- nated as being within the “residence district” of said village. Section 3—All sidewalks hereafter constructed as aforesaid, either as new improvements or to replace old ones shall be so laid that the upper surface thereof shall be upon and even with the grade of the center of the street or avenue upon which they are so constructed, as such grade shall have then been duly fix- ed and established, and shall be built of cement or planks and of a kind, quality and manner of construction, all as determined, ordered or ap- proved by the village council. The sidewalks in each block shall be of a uniform width, and sidewalks so constructed within the business dis- trict shall be not less than six feet in width, except as to Main street which shall be eight feet in width, with the inside or property side thereof on or flush with the property line fronting on said improvements; and sidewalks so constructed within the residence district shall be not less than six feet in width, with the inside or property side thereof at a distance ot one foot from the prop- erty line fronting on said improve- ments; provided that, if the village council shall so order or approve, the sidewalks on any street or avenue within the business district, which street or avenue is less than sixty feet in width, may be of a width not less than six feet. Section 4—Nothing herein con- tained shall be construed to require a change in the grades or levels of any cement sidewalks now construct- ed or in process of construction in said village; and the grades on which such cement sidewalks have been or are being constructed are hereby fixed as the proper grades or levels for the same, anything in this or any other ordinance to the con- trary notwithstanding. Nor shall any- thing herein contained require thé change of the grade or level of any existing sidewalk upon the repairing of same, unless the council shall determine that such existing sidewalk should be wholly reqlaced. Section 5—All ordinances and parts of ordinances inconsistant herewith should be wholly replaced.
