Rosholt being the lowest and best bid, Commissioner Trebilcock moved that said bid be ac- cepted, The motion was seconded by Commis toned O'Brien and carried by unanimous vote. Commissioner. O’Brien moved that the sum of $500.00 be appropriated from the County Revenue fund to the County Attorney’s Contingent Fund, The mo- tion was bilcock ¢ seconded by Commissioner Tre- Whereas, of the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Itasca that hereto- fore, in the year 1905, several indict- ments were found and returned by the Grand Jury of Itasca County, charging c. C. Miller, former County Treasurer of said County, with the embezzlement of the funds of said County to the amounts therein named, and Whereas, Two of said indictments have been tried at different terms of the District Court and submitted*to the petit jury at said terms, in both of which trials large sums of money were expend- ed and which resulted in both, instan- in acquittals, and Whereas, This Board is of the opinion that the said cases so tried were two of the strongest cases which could be made against said Miller, and that the remaining indictments, if tried, would cause further great expense to the county and would probably result no __ better than the cases already tried and would also result in verdicts of not guilty, and and that the ends of justice would be better ved by dismissals of said in- dictments than if the same were tried to a jury, therefore be it Resolved by the Board of | County Commissioners of the County of Itasca, State of Minnesota, that the County Attorney of said County be and he is hereby requested to confer with the At- torney General of the state as to the advisability of proceeding further under said remaining indictments, and to re- port to this Board, the result of such conference at an early meeting thereof. The motion was seconded by Commis- sioner Trebilcock and carried by unani- mous vote. Commissioner McWilliams arrived at this time and took a seat in the meet- ing. Commissioners Trebilcock, McWilliams and Mui were appointed a committee to examine road No. 55, south of Black- berry Upon motion of Commissioner O’Brien, seconded b y Commissioner _ Trebilcock, the hearing upon the petition for the organizetion of a new school district in townships 60 and 61, range 22, was con- tinu to the next meeting, to be held Ju nd. The bids for the grading of the state road across the bog north of Deer ver were opened and read as follows: Erick. Peterson, for the first mile from Kerr Brook to the bog, for the sum of $350.00; also from that point to the north side of the bog for $32.00 per mile. J. Reigelsperger, $1.00 for leveling the clay and 50 cents per rod for the bog. William Smith for the sum of $2,593.00. Commissioner McWilliams moved that all the bids be rejected. The motion was seconded by Commissioner O’Brien and carried by unanimous vote. The bids for the grading of the state road north of Wellers Spur were then opened: The bid of William Smith for $2.50 per rod being the only bid received, Commissioner O’Brien moved that said bid be accepted. The motion was sec- onded by Commissioner McWilliams and carried by unanimous vote. Commissioner O’Brien moved that the sum of $300.00 be appropriated from the County Road and Bridge Fund to the town of Ardenhurst to aid said town in the repair and construction of roads and bridges. The motion was second- ed by Commissioner Trebilcock and carried by unanimous vote. Upon motion the plat of Lake View Ac¢ dition to It a City was approved by unanimous vote, The County Auditor was instructed to advertise for bids for grading that part of the Feely-Bovey road, being County Road No. 21, commincing at the south quarter post of section 32, township 55, range 23 and extending north and west to Herman Gran’s place. John Saari was given the job to ditch mile of the Wawina road at 15 cer a yard. A petition was presented requesting the Board to detach from the town of Trout Lake, the northwest puarter of section 6 of said Town and to ‘attach the sam Comm to the Town of Tron Range. jioner Trebilcock moved that a hearing be had upon said petition at the County court house, Grand Rapids, on the 16th day of August, 1909, and that notice of said hearing be given as provided by law. The motion was sec- ended by Commissioner McWilliams and earried by unanimous yote. Commissioner O’Brien mover that the sum of $300.00 be appropriated from the County Road ‘and_ Bridge Fund _ to the Town of Third River; also that the sum of $300.00 be appropriated from the County Road and Bridge Fund to the Town of Good Hope, to aid said Towns in the repair and’ construction of roads and bridges. The motion was seconded by Commis- sioner McWilliams and carried by un- animous vote. Commissioner O’Brien moved that the Register of Deeds be authorized to trans- cribe the records from Cass and Aitkin Counties affecting lands south and west of the Mississippi River, and that he be paid the snm of 10 cents per folio. The motion was seconded by Commis- sioner McWilliams and carried by unani- mous vote. Comm. ‘jioner O’Brien moved that the sum of $300.00 be appropriated from the County Road and Bridge Fund to the Town of Bass Brook for the improve. ment of roads on town line between townships 55, range 26 and 55, range 27, at the southwest corner 1, sec! 7, township 65, range 26, and extending south. To the board of County Commissioners of Itasca County, Minnesota: Honorable sirs:—We, the undersigned, Supervisors of the Town of Bass Brook, County of Itasca, and State of Minne- sota, respectfully represent that the’ said Town of Bass Brook have resolved to construct a bridge of steel, stone and concrete across the Mississippi River, on the legally established highway re- cently laid out, in said township, which said location is not within the corpor- ate limits of any city of the first, second or third clas: We further represent that the said township of Bass Brook has provided for the payment of one-half of the cost of the construction of said bridge, the total estimated cost of which will be $8,500.00, which amount far exceeds one-eighth of one per centum of all the taxable property in said township schorting to its last equalized valua- ‘ion.; In consideration of the facts as above set forth and pursuant to the provis- ions of Chapter 423, Laws of 1907, we respectfully ask that the Board of Coun- ty Commissioners of said County of Ttasca shall appropriate the other one- half of the cost of the construction of said bridge, and that said County Board shall forthwith, as provided by said Chapter 423, Laws of 1907, designate two of its members as a committee to co-operate with the supervisors of said township of Bass Brook in the letting of a contract for the construction of said bridge. On motion liquor licenses were granted to A. E. Wilder and Grefe & Co. Trustee Remer moved to reconsider and recind the action of the Council of June 30th concerning the paving of Third street. The motion was seconded by Trustee Leroux, duly carried, and the following resolution adopted: Resolved, That the action of this Council of June 30th 1909, providing for the paving of Third street and awarding the contract for same to Rudolph S. Blome Co. be and it is hereby recinded and vacat- ed. A petition was presented by C. H. Marr and others, being three-fourths of the owners of real estate abutting on Third street in the Village, for the paving of that part ‘of Third street from a point 200 feet east of Leland avenue west to the east side of Clough avenue with Ru- dolph S. Blome Company’s granitoid pavement, and Trustee Remer offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: Resolution. Whereas, three fourths of all the owners of real estate bounding both sides of that part of Third street proposed to be improved, have petitioned this Council for the paving of that part of Third street from a point 200 feet east of Leland avenue west to the east side. of Clough avenue in this Village with Rudolph S. Blome Company’s granit- oid pavement, and whereas this Coun- cil has caused plans and specificat- ions, and an estimate of the cost of the proposed improvement to be made and filed in the office of the Village Recorder, Now be it resolved, That this Council meet at the Coun- cil Chamber in the Village hall in this village at 8:00 o’clock p. m. on July 26th, 1909, for the purpose of receiving, opening and considering bids for the paving of said Third street between the points above men- tioned with Rudalph S. ORDINANCE NO. 62 An Ordinance Authorizing and Con- senting to the Organization, Incor. poration and Maintaining of a Firemen’s Relief Association in the Village of Grand Rapids. The Village Council of the Village of Grand Rapids do ordain as fol- lows: Section 1. The members of the volunteer fire department of the Village of Grand Rapids are hereby authorized and given consent to or- ganize, incorporate and matntain a firemen’s relief association in said village, to be governed by and en- titled to the benefits of the provis- ions of sections 3102-3107, inclusive, Revised Laws of Minnesota, 1905, Chapters 197 and 237, General Laws of Minnesota, 1909, and of all laws of said state and lawful ordinances, resolutions and other actions of said Village, now or hereafter in force, appertaining thereto. Section 2. Before the certificate of incorporation or by-laws of said association, or any amendment there- of, shall become binding or effective, a copy thereof shall be filed with the Village Recorder and approved by a majority of all the members of the Village Council, by resolution. Whereas; Pursuant to and under author ity of a majority of the electors of the Town of Wirt, Itasca County, Minneso. ta, voting at a special election duly called for that purpose, the Board of Supervisors of said Town duly passed a resolution, that said Town issue its eupon bonds in the aggregate sum of Ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) pay- able Twenty years from date of issu- ance, all bearing interest at the rate of Six per cent per annum, the proceeds to be used for the purpose in said resolution stated, which said resolution duly authorized and_ instructed the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors and the Town Clerk to give notice by publication and appoint a time and place of holding a meeting of said Board for the receiving and opening of bids for said bonds and designating the manner of advertisement of said bids. Now therefore, pursuant to said re- solution notice is hereby given that at the office of the Town Clerk of said Town of Wirt, in said Town on Satur- day, August 14th, 1909, at 10:00 o’clock a. m., there will be held a meeting of the Board of Supervisors of said Town to there and then receive, open and con- sider bids for said bonds and to effect the sale of the same. , Notice is further given, that any Lids to be submitted may be delivered to the undersigned, as Clerk of Said Town at his residence in said Town, or through the mail directed to him at Wirt, Minnesota, and that he will fur- nish any necessary information concern- ing said bonds and the sale thereof. Whereas, The Village Council of the Village of Calumet deems it expedient that a sidewalk be built on the south side of Second avenue, from Gary street to the northeast corner of lot 13, block 5, in the Village of Calumet, Itasca County, Minnesota; therefore be it Resolved, by the Village Council of {the Village of Calumet that it be and the same is hereby ordered to be built on Second avenue as above recited and in the following manner, viz: Said sidewalk to be constructed of two inch pine plank of suitable widths, laid cross- wise on three stringers, to be of pine and not less than two by six inches in dimension, laid on edge, with ends se- curely fastened, and on a_ sufficient number of posts. or blocks for the proper support of said sidewalk. An ordinance relating to the laying of service pipes connecting water mains of the village of Grand Rapids with the premises of consumers, and the material to be used therein. The village council of the village Grand Rapids do ordain as follows: Section 1. All service pipes’ hereafter | laid connecting the water mains of the village of Grand Rapids with the prem- ises of consumers, either as new connect ions or to replace old ones, shall be of lead, from the main to the property line, and of the quality designated as extra strong, and at least one-eighth (4%) inch larger in diameter than the taps through which they are supplied. In all cases where such lead pipe shall connect with iron piping, a brass coup- ling must be used, and in no case shall lead be soldered to iron. Section 2. The cost of* such pipes and connections and the laying of same and trenching shall be paid as hereto- fore provided by ordinance as to the making of such connections with the mains. Section 3. All ordinances and parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed. Section 4. This ordinance shall take errect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.
