en eee —— CORRESPONDENCE J. Hayes of Nashwauk was in town Monday. Mrs. C. E. McConnell visited with her mother at Proctor Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. A contract has been let to Lonic Cucci to lower the town well eight feet, a much needed emprovement. All regular passenger trains on the Messaba make regular stops at Calumet effective January rith, Mrs, M. Crow! is quite ill. Glen Seville of Hibbing made a business call here Saturday. Mr. D. Graham of Hibbing and Mr. S. Hill of Proctor were in town Friday. Mr. Hill was looking to purchase some lots. J. C. Mick made a business trip to Hibbing Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs. B. O’Connor returned Thurs- day from Odannah, Wis. Her three children are attending school there. J. Rich of Proctor came Wednes- day for a visit with his friends, Messrs John Smith and Howard*Palua. Mr. Grant of Duluth placed a fire proof gasoline lighting plant, in the business places of Tarrs Bros. and T. VonRueden’s last week. _Geo Emsley and wife of Proctor visited with C.E. McConnell and wife last Tuesday and Wednesday. A card party was given at the home of Justice Gross on Thursday evening. All report a very pleasant | time. Misses Alma Speaute of Grand Rapids and Matilla Phearson of Bovey were the guests of Mrs. Halvor Aas a part of last week. Gus Valley has sold his barber shop interests in the European hotel to Mr. Henry Goder of Grand Rapids, who will conduct the busi- ness in the old stand. We wish him success. Herman Antonelli, president of the Calumet Mercantile company, came over from Hibbing and spent a part of last week here looking over the interest of the company. The masquarade dance, given at the New hall on the r2th, was en- joyed by all. Thirty-four couples participated. Mrs. A. Westerdahl won the lady’s pnze and Postmaster Mick the gents prize. The commit- tee announces another dance on the 23rd. All are invited to attend. Saturday evening two sleigh loads of Calumet people drove out to the camps of the Oliver Iron Mining company at Snowball lake, where the diamond drill boys royaly entertained them. Cards and dancing and affine camp supper were the features of the evening.
