Powers underwent a mastoid operation at St. Mary’s hos- pital, Superior, last Saturday,performed by Dr. Wm. Grounds of Superior and Dr. Gendron of Grand Rapids. Dave does own a farm in this county and sometimes pays a yisit to Grand Rap- ids but when he became a voter in Itasca, and renounced allegiance to Carlton, deponent sayeth not. Mrs. A. G. Haschey was a pas- senger to Grand Rapids to visit her parents Tuesday, and the next day she went to the hospital at Duluth to consult physicians in regard to her ail- ments, which of late have been grow- ing to alarming stages. She learns that gaul stones are the cause of her suffering, but the doctor is of the opin- jon that an operation may not be necessary. Mr. WHaschey accom- panied her. They returned yester- day.—Deer River News. M. G. Madsen, the tarmer-tailor of Blackberry, says he will pay a reward of $5.00 to anyone who will bring back his dark grey with white .spots Russian wolf hound. The aforesaid Russian wolf hunter strayed away from Mr. Madsen’s premises last Fri- day and is supposed to be onthe south side of the river down in the Splithand district. Mr. Madsen wants that Russian and wants him at once. C. L. Pratt, a prominent attorney of Grand Rapids, accompanied by B. C. Finnigan, J. K. Whipple and W B. Thurlby of Grand Rapids and cent trouble, a fact that many friends of Mrs. Powers will be most pleased to hear. The mastoid is located just back of the ear and it was necessary to make an incision through the skull to permit of the removal of a foreign growth beneaththe bene. Mr. Powers and Emily, their little daughter, and a sister of Mrs. Powers from Sioux City, Ia., were present in Duluth when the doctors operated. A Dog-gone Case. Andrew J. Winters, who worked on the farm of Attorney Frank F. Price during the past summer, was up be- fore Justice Bailey Saturday last on a charge of dog stealing. It appears that Mr. Price bad two shepherd dogs at the farm and when Mr. Winters left the place some time ago the dogs went with him. Mr. Price alleged that Wioter’s held the dogs contrary to the dog-gon statutes in such sausages made and devoured. The attorney secured possession of his pets through process of law and the assistance of Deputy Sheriff Fish. He also caused the arrest’ of Mr. Winters on a criminal warrant and }on the evidence adduced he was bound over to the grand jury, and allowed turun at large on his own recognizance. C. THE CATHOLIC FAIR 8 DAYS NEXT WEEK Entertainment and Sale Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3, 4 and 5 at Village Hall. Preparations for the Catholic fair to be held next Thursday, Friaay and Saturday at Village hall, are being perfected by the several committees in charge of the different features of the event. There will be many at- tractions to offer. Delightful enter- tainment and an excellent supper will be provided each evening. The innumerable useful articles that will be offered by numbers or otherwise to the patrons of the fair are of'a character that will merit a lively sale. Basket Ball Friday. Next Friday the girls basket ball team of Hibbing will pay a fraternal visit to Grand Rapids and in the evening a game will be played at the High school gymnasium The Mother's Club. The Mother’s club met in the Cen- tral school last Friday afternoon. Supt. E. A. Freeman was present and urged the mothers to take ap active interest in the club, as better results can be obtained in the schools if the teachers have the cooperation of the parents. The officers for this year are: Mrs. Erskine, president; Miss Hessian, vice president: Mrs. Gend- ron, secretary. ‘The next meeting will be held on December 11, when an interesting and instructive pro- gram will be given.
