Pursuant to acjourment, the Board of County Commissioners of Itasca County, Min- nesota met at the Courthouse in the village of Grand Rapids, this 4th day ofAugust, 1908. ‘Members present: Commissioners Mullins, King, Paesard and Sundloff. Commissioner King moyed that the County Superintendent of Highways be instructed to forthwith make u survey of a road from Win- nibigoshish dam to section 16, township 148, range 26, and file a report thereof in the office of the County Auditor. The bond of the First State Bank of Bovey in the sum of $47,300.00. as a County Deposi- tory, was presented and upon motion of Uom- missioner King, seconded by Commissioner Sundloff, was approved by unanimous vote. It being the time set for hearing upon the application of Frank Payne, for a license to sell intoxicating liquors at Ballclub; also the application of Kajosevich & Co. fora license to sell intoxicating liquors at Calumet, the » was then taken under consideration. re being no objections filed or offered against the granting of said applications, upon motion of Commissioner Pas: eCOL- ded by Commissioner Sundloff, said applica- tions were approved by unanimous vote and licenses Ordered issued to said applicants. The following applications for correction of ussessment und abatemeut of taxes were approved by the Board and recommended to the Minnesota Tax Commission: Straus Brothers Company, 1, John O’Reilley 1, Muel- ler Lumber Compuny 1, E.O. Walley 1, G. G. Hartley 1, It being the time set for hearing upon the petition for the establishment of a highway in township 54 and 55. range 26, known as the Hughes Road, the Committee filed the fol- lowing report: To the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Itasca, Minnesota: The uadersigned Committee appointed by you to examine the proposed route of a high- way, us stated in the petition referred to in your order of appointment made on the 12th day of June, 1908, would respectfully report that we met at the timd and place designated in your said order, and proceeded to examine the highway proposed to be established, viz: Beginning at the section corner of sections 8, 9, 16 and 17, township 54, range 26, and run- ning thence north on section line between sections 8 and 9, and four and five of township 54, range 26, and between sections 32 and 33 of township 55, range 26, to the quarter post be- tween sections 32 and 33 of township 50, range 26, and to be connected with other roads as follows: County Road known as Smoky Hol- low Road in township 55, range 26, and termi- nate at the quarter post between sections 32 and 33 of township 55, and range 26. = ‘And do hereby by the opinion of a majority of said Committees recommend that the prayer of the said petitioners be granted. Commissioner Sundloff moved that said Gun- der Jacobson be allowed damages in the sum of $50.00 and that the Couaty Auditor be in- structed to draw a warrant upon the County Road and Bridge Fund in fayor of said Gunder Jacobson for the sum of $50.00. A petition was presented requesting the Board to organize township 148, range 23, anu to name said town the town of "Gi re Commissioner Passard moved the adoption of the following resolution: Whereas. a petitioa has been presented to this Board for the organization of township 143, range 28, and requesting that said towo be named the town of “Good Hope” und Whereas, said petition appears to comply with the law and to bein all respects sufficient for said purpose. 5 Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the prayer of said petition be and the same is nereby granted, that said township 148,range 28, be and the same is hereby organized into a new town under the name of ‘Good Hope”; that the boundaries of said ‘town are hereby fixed according to the government survey thereof; that thé first town meeting for said town of Good Hope be held at the residence of Henry Holen, in said town on Saturday the 22nd day of August, 1908, ond that the County Auditor cause ten days posted notice of said town meeting to be given according to law. ‘The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by Commissioner Sundloff and carried by unanimous vote. as seconded by Commissioner Passard and | The following report of the County Boara | of Audit was presented to the Board: ~ ‘To the honorabie Board of County Commis- sioners. County Treas- urer of said County, and to count and as- certain the kind, description and amount of funds in the Treasury and belonging thereto. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Sund- loff and carried by unanimous vote. Commissioner Passard moved that the sum of $3001.00 be appropriated from the County Koad and Bridge Fund to the Towa ot Nore to aid said town in the repair and construc- tion of roads and bridges. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Sundloff and c3r- ried by unanimous vote. The Board then adjourned to 1:30P.M. _ Pursuant to adjournment the Buard again met at 1:30 P. M. : Members present: Commissioners Mullins, King. Sundloff and Passard. Commissioner King moved that the sum of 2200.00 be appropriated to be expended under the direction of Commissioner O'Brien in the construction ot tl portion of the Carlson Road, beginnin the quarter post on the west side of section 33, township d4. range 25. and running thence Ei on quarter line to the center of section thence north on quarter line one-quater mile. There was no second to the motion. Commissioner Passard then moved that J. H. Carison be given a contract to construct and Complete suid bi ofroad for the sum of $350 00 The said J. H. Carlson having made an offerto construct said piece of road for suid amount. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Sundloff and carried by the fol- lowing votes: Commissioners Passard, Sund- lof aud Mullins voted yea, and Commi King voting nay. ‘The following petition was then presented: To The Board of County Commissioners of Itasca County ; Honorable Sirs: We, the undersigned super- yisors of the town of Lake Jessie, County of Itasca, and State of Minnesota, respectfully represent that the said town of Lake Jessie have resolved to construct a bridge of steel. stone and concrete across the Jessie Brook on the legally established highway near the Sombs farm on the ‘line between sections 11 and 14, in town 147, range 25. in said township which said logation is not within the cor- porate limits of any city of the first, second or third class. . We further represent that the said township of Lake Jessie has provided for the payment of one-half of the cost of the construction of said bridge, the total estimated cost of which will be $1000.00, which amount far exceeds one- eighth of one per centum of all of the taxable property in said township according to its last oqaaiinnt valuation. : ‘n consideration of the facts as above set forth and pursuaut to the provisions of Chap- ter 423, Laws of 1907, we respectfully ask that the Board of County Commissioners of the said County of Itasca shall appropriate the other one-half of the cost of the construction of said bridge, and that said County Board shall forthwith, as provided by said Ohepeer 423, Laws of 1907, designate two of its members as a committee to co-operate with the super- visors of said townshlp of Lake Jessie in the letting of acontract for the construction of said bridge. . : Dated at Lake Jessie Tp., Minnesota, this 2ist day of ouly, 198. e LO. sJt ND. The following preamble and resolution was seconded by Commissicner | * introduced by Commissioner King, who moved its adoption: “Whereas. it has become necessary in the matter of the improvement of a certain coun- ty property lying and being in section 16. townehip 55, range 25, to convert unto the county use a certain puplic highway lying, being and existing and running across said county property, and “Whereas, said h'ghway has fur a term ex- ceeding six years been maintained as a public highway by the Board of Supervisors of said township of Grand Rapids, and public money of said township has been expended upon said road during each and every year of said six years last past, and 5 “Whereas, the authorities of the Township of Grand Rapids have signified their intention of vacating and abandoning said highway as it now exists and runs across said County property, and are about to let 4 contract for the opening up and completion of a highway on other lines than the highway now existing. “Now, therefor, be it and it is hereby re- solved and ordained by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Itasca, Minn., in session legally as: bled, that the Board of County Commissidners of said Itasca Coun- ty, Minn., for and in consideration of the abandonment and vacating of said highway as it now exists across said county property, at such a time and date io the immediate future as the highway proposed to be built by said Board of Superyisors of said Grand Rapids shall be completed and ready for occupancy and travel by the public, and’ in consideration of said Township of Grand Rapids proceeding with all due dilligence and expediency to have said proposed puplic highway legally laid out, constructed and completed, and put in as good a condition for travel over same as theopresent public high- way as at the date of the pussage hereof, the Board of County Commissioners of said Itasca County Go hereby and by these presents grant, bargain, release, convey and quit-claim unto the Board of Supervisors of the Townshiy of Grand Rapids, in Itasca County, Minn. the perpetual right (to lay out, establish, buiid and muintain a public road and highway upon the following Cescribed county proper- ty, viz; Beginning ata pointon the 4 line 33 feet north of the center of section 16, town 55, range 25, thence running east on course parallel with the ‘4 line, a distance of 12 Teet; thence north at an angle of 90° 27 distance of 1233 feet, thence north at an angle of 45° a distance of 46.6 feet to 4s No. Lof Sec- tion No. 16, in said township and range. Commissioner King moved that the sum of $1500.00 be appropriated from the County Road and Bridge Fund to aidio the construc- tion of two bridges across the Bigfork River in the Town of Popple. said amount to be available April Ist. 1909, if the bridges are completed at that time. it being the intention | to construct said bridges during the winter, upon the ice. fhe motion was seconded by .J to the | Commissioner O’Brein and declared carried, the vote being as follows: Commissioners King, ,O’Brein and Mullins voting ‘‘yea,” Commissioner Passard voting ‘“nuy,’” and Commissioner Sundloff not voting. NOTICE, Notice is hereby given that a petition. of which the following is a copy, has been filed in the office of the county auditor of Itasca county. To the County Board of the County of Itasca, State of Minnesota, The undersigned land owners whose lands will be liable to be affected by. or assessed for, the expense of the construction of tie county ditch hereinafter described, would respectfully represent that the public health, convenience and welfare and the reciamation of wet and overflowed lands require the establishment and construction of a drainage ditch along the following described route in the towns of fifty-four, range twenty-four and twenty-five in said county of Itasca, and that the constructioa of the same would be of public benefit and utility, would reclaim at least two thousand acres of good agricultural lands. A general description of the proposed start- ing point, route and terminus of said ditch is as follows: Commencing at the east end of Hale lake, being in the uorth east % of the southeast 44 of section twenty-four, township fifty-four, range twenty-five; thence in an easterly direction across the township line into township fifty-four, range twenty-four, thence southeast to a lake in the south quarter of the southwest one quarter of sec tion nineteen of above said township, thence ina south easterly direction toa small lake in section twenty-nine, and from there into creek running east into the Mississippi river, through loteight of tion twenty-eight of the above said township. Also a lateral ditch. starting from lakes in the northwest % of section thirty of township fifty-four, range twenty-four, thence run in @ northeasterly direction to intersect with the main ditch in section nineteen of the above said town and range. Your petitioners especially request that the line of ditch will be constructed along the route of the water course. known as the old over flow of the Black's arm on Lake Pokeg ama. and to follow the same as much as practical. And your petitioners pray that you will proceed to establish such county ditch and cause the sume to be constructed as provided by chapter two hundred thirty (230), of the general laws of Minnesota for 1905.
