d that a preside! ‘brings business is hd this acceptance makes the 88 a certainty whether there is othcr reason for it or not. Vhen the business body of the country looks for hard times it always finds them. By providing for bus- iness dullness we cause it. As a matter of simple fact there is no reason why business should con- tinue dull this year because this is a presidential year any more than that itshould be dull because it is leap year. There are no presidentiai issues whatever before the country at this time that invulve financial or econo- mic disturbance. No changes of policy are proposed by either party that could alter the basis of business. The currancy question is accepted as settled for the present, and the treasury and the banks were never stronger. B The tariff, which so vitally affects manifold interests, is not being dis- turbed. No issue is proposed on any hand that could alarm business, Even should tae one possible com- mercial issue—that of warfare on the criminal trusts—be brought more prominently forward, general business could have nothing to lose, but much to gain. So it is impossible to see upon what the commercial fear of this particular presidential year can be substantially based. There is superstition only. — But that, unfortunately, seems sufficient to cause timidity, depression and possible disastres. Apprehension, even of the worst, may readily enough be realized. But on the otber and better hand, con- fidence, even the highest, if generally shared in by the business men of the country, would be more than justified. The causes of the depresion of the last six months—whatever they were—have passed away. It is the psychic attitude to be taken by bus- iness men which will make or mar the business of the rest of the year. Bagley Merchants Stung. Three men, supposed to have come to Bagley from Cass Lake or Grand Rapids, got rid of some bad money there Saturday afternoon. They suc- ceeded in passing at least three bad $10 bills, and left before their decep- tion was discovered. They made purchases of several local business concerns, tendering $10 bills, which from a hasty glance looked all right. Later, the merch- ants scanned the money received more closely with the result that it was found that the bills were “bogus” being flimsy imitations. When the game was discovered the perpetrators had made good their escape and no tracé of their where- abouts could be found. The bills used were the old ‘‘wild- cat” money issued by the: Merchants and Planters Bank of Georgia, in war times—Walker Pilot. 3 Notice of Mortgage Forclosure Sale. (Court Seal] Herald-Review May 13 June 3 _—_ Resolution Refunding Taxes. Whereas, it has been made to appear by the affidavit of James Hughes to the satisfac- tion of the village council of the village of Nashwauk. that the sidewalk tax levied agaiast jot numbered fourteen (14) in block numbered ten (10) of the villag2 of Nashwauk. in the year 1904 amounting to Eleven and 10-100 dollars Bae IE the property of James Hughes was unjustly levied, for the reason that the xiltage of Nashwauk never at any time furnished any material or labor for the construction of any sidewalk in, upon or along the above described property but that all sidewalks built in, along or upon the here- inbefore described property, were built and the labor and material therefore were fur- nished by James Hughes, the owner thereof. It spbeics that the said sidewalk tax amounting to Eleven and 10-100 dollars (11.10) so unjustly levied against the hereintofore deseril roperty, was paid heretofore by James Hughes, the owner thereof. Therefor, be it resolved by the village council of Nashwauk, that the sa‘d unjust sidewalk tax of Eleven and 10-100 dollars ($11.10) be refunded to the said James Hughes, and that the recorder be instructed to draw an order on the treasurer of the village of Nash- wauk for the sum of Eleven and 10-100 dollars ($11.10), payable to James Hughes.
