Every. spring everybody seems to think that the impoundingordinance of Grand Rapids has been repealed. It is still in full force and will be found effective by stock owners who allow their beasts to run at will about the streets. Judge Huson fined Joe Williams $5.00 and costs yester- day for allowing bis stock to run at large. Others will be similary treat- ed for the same offense. ~ Martin Dufficy has again assumed the management of the Fountain house, after an absence of a year, which time he spent en his Pokegama lake farm. Mr, Patrick Hoolihan, who conducted the hotel since last April, has enjoyed~a good patronage since assuming charge of the place. He will move to Cohasset with his family to reside. »Mr. Dufficy is a successful hotel man of considerable experience, is well known, and we predict under his direction the Foun- tain house will continue to enjoy an increasing trade. Nisbett’s Auction Sale. Will Nishett, the pioneer jeweler of Grand Rapids, bas issued bills through which he advertises an auc- tion sale of his entire stock of jew- elry. This sale will mean something to the public. Mr. Nisbett is de- termined to turn his goods into cash at whatever price is necessary to ac- complish his purpose. When Nisbett says he will do a thing it will be done. This fine stock of watches, clocks and jewelry will be sold. It is a chance not often offered. The attorneys present at the ban- quet given Judge Spooner at Bemidji met after the conclusion of the cere-: monies and decided to organize a bar association of the Fifteenth judicial district. Chester McKusick, — of Bemidji, was elected temporary presi- dent, and G. M. Torrance, secretary. President McKusick was authorized to appoint a committee of one from each of the eight counties in the dis- trict, which committee will prepare the constitution and bylaws. It was the unanimous opinion of the attor- neys thgt the first meeting of the new district bar association be held in Be- midji in the month of July, the exact date of which.is to be decided later. TO PROTECT | HARMLESS BIRDS Game Wardens Have Been Instructed to Enforce Laws Against Shooting Them The state fish and game commission Ras decided to take actiye steps this year to enforce the laws against the shooting of harmless birds. The law in question is as follows: “Sec. 66. Harmless birds. Any per- son who takes, catches, kills, ships or causes to be shipped within or, with- ous the state: purchases, offers, or exposes for sale, sells, has in possess- ion with intent to sell, any harmless bird, either living or dead or any part thereof, in violation of the terms of section thirty-nine (39) of this chapter, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof punished by a fine of not less than ten (10) nor more than twenty-tive (25) dollars and costs of proseeution, or by imprison- ment in the county jail for not less than thirty (30) days for each and every bird or any part thereof so caught, taken, killed, shipped or caused to be shipped to any person, either within.or without this state: purchased or sold to any gne, had in possession with intent to sell, offered, or exposed for sale, or had in possess- ion, or under his control. “This section shall not be construed to apply to the keeping or selling of parrots or song birds as domestic pets.” Se SS M.
