State of Minnesota, March, 28rd, 1908. The first regular meeting of the village council of the village ‘of Holman, Itasca county, Minnesota. was held at the store of J. D. Powe: . in the yillage of Holman on this 23rd day of March, 1908. Clerk-elect Reed called the meeting to order and read the certificates of election and the oaths of office of the followingzofficers, viz: Certificate of election and oath of office of Rebt. Johnson as president. Certificate of election and oath of office of G. R. Reea, as clerk. Certificate of election and oath of office of John Larson as trustee, Certificate of election and oath of office of James Hodgins as trustee. The clerk read the roll of officers and the following were present: President Johnson, Clerk Reed, Trustees Larson, Hodgins and Amonette. ‘The president announced that he would defer the appointment of committees until the next meeting, with the exception of the committee on purchasing supplies, and he appointed the following upou said committee: Clerk Reed and Trustee Hodgins. The president announced as the next order of business the appointment of Officers. Moved by Trustee Hodgins, seconded by Trustee Amonette, that John Faulkingor .be appointed village marshal for the ensuing year. : There being no further nominations, a vote Was taken upon the nomination of John Faulkinghor, and he wus elected village marshal by « unaminous vote. and the presi- dent declared him elected to the said office. Upon motion duly seconded and carried the appointment of y other officers was deterred uutil a later date. U motion duly seconded und carried the salary of the village marshall was fixed in the sum of $60.00 per month. Trustee Hodgins preseated the following resolution and moved its adoption, viz; “Resolved by the village council of the village of Holman, Itasca county. Minnesota, that the Grand Rapids Herald-Review. a ieee newspaper printed and published in the village of Grand Ra is. Itasca, conn: Minn, and generally circulated in the village of Holman and Itasca county generally, be and the same is hereby designated ae the official newspaper of the village of Holman for the ensuing vear,in which the official aes ings of the village council ofthe village of Holman, such ordinances as may be required to be published, and all other notices which the law may require publication thereof shall be published during the onsuing vear.”’ “Resolved further that the compensation for such publications shall be the amounts allowed by law, viz: the sum of 75 cents per folio for the first insertion and the sum of 35 cents per folio for each subsequent inser- tion.” Clerk Reed seconded the motion for the adoption of the resolution. and upon a vote being taken the resolution was adoped by # unanimous vote. and the president declared the passage of the resolution. Trustee Hodgins presented the following resolution\ and moved its adoption, viz: “Resolved, that the First State Bank of Bovey, Minn., be and the same is hereby designated as the depository of the moneys of the village of Holman, Itasca county, Minnesota, for the ensuing year. said bank to furnish a bond in the sum of $6,000.00to in- demnify the village against loss by reason of said bank being named us such depository.” Trustee Larson seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and upona vote being taken the adoption of the resolution was by a unanimous vote, the president so clared such action. Upon motion duly seconded and carried upanimously the salary of the clerk was fixed ue sum of $30.00 per month for the ensuing r. Upon motion duly seconded and carried the salury of the treasurer was fixed in an amount equal to two per cent, of all an that comes to the treasurers’ hands during the ensuing year. The applications of Ernest Johnson, George Morrison, James Amonette. Mike Bradash and Katherina Fontena for license to sell in- toxicating liquors were presented. Upon motion duly seconded and carried the applications were ordered tiled, and fuesday April 7th, 1908, at two o'clock p. m., was fixed as the date and time andthe store of J.D. Powers as the place when the council would hsp and have ahearing upon said appli- cations. Upon motion duly seconded and curried the following committee was appointed to confer with the townsite owners and to do other things necessary for the pu: of securing quarters adequate for the holding of the meetings of this council and for the purpose of securing adequate guarters for confining any viliage prisoners who may become village charges, viz:—President inson, Trustees Amonette and Lurson. Said committee being instructed to make repent of their labors at the next meeting of the couxcil.
