As there’ is no yil- lage ordinance bearing on the sub- ject of train biotkades of streets Mr. Murker was arrested under the state law and it became the duty of County | Attorney Spear to prosecute the cl- leged offender. Callahan was in when court adjourned last evening, and argument by the state took up-all of this forenoon. Attorney Frank F. Price will present the case to the jury in behalf of the defendant this after- noon. On Monday next the court wiil take up the case of the State vs. Cooper—a blind pig charge. An adjournment will then be taken until February 20, when Judge Spooner will take up the balance of | the court cases. On March 20 Judge McClenahan will be here to take up the Gardner and Miller cases. PROPOSITIONS NOT ACCEPTED No word has yet been received from the postoffice department at Washington relative to the establish- ment of two daily mails between Grand Rapids and Bovey. In re- sponse to the department’s advertise- ment only one bid was submuted, and it is hkely that it was deemed too high and hence no action has been taken. If the department would adopt plans equally as economical in the handling ot big contracts as that applied to star routes, the postoffice system of the United States would be an immense money maker for the government. BIG INTEREST TAKEN IN SKIING The Bovey Ski club continues to keep up the interest that was made manifest when the organization was formed. Many runners are reported to have joined recently and the names of some fast men are enrolled among the list of members. The run- way on the shore of Trout lake has been put in good shape. Bills have been distributed about town announc- éog a run tomorrow and 1t is expected thata large crowd from Grand Rap- ids will drive out to witness the sport. M. E. Church Services. Junior League.
