WIS ‘WILL CLOSE THANKSGIVING The stores and many other business houses of Grand Rapids will close on ‘Thanksgiving day at 10 o’clock in the forenoon. The public should bear this in mind and purchase all things necessary for the thank-you dinner accordingly. Another Bank Secured The First National bank of Grand Rapids has secured a controlling in- terest in the Ffrst State bank of Bovey. It was the intention of the: First Na- tional people to establish a new bank- ing house at Bovey and the result 1s the consolidation of interests. D. M. Vermilyea remains as cashier, Caught Another Pig James Maby was brought down from Green Rock.in 60-22 on Thurs- day by Sheriff Hoolihan, on a war- rant charging him_ with the offense of selling filiquor without a license. He was given a hearing before Justice Sims on Thursday and was bound over in the sum of $250. In default of bail he was committed to the coun- ty jail to await the action of the grand jury. Olander Postoffice The village of Green rock, twenty miles north of here, is hereafter to be known as Olander, weich name was given it by the postoffice department at Washington. A_ postoffiée is soon to be established there and Royal C. Harrington, the pioneer merchant of that place, will be appointed post- master. The new name is in hosorof Nels Olander, of this place, who is largely interested in the new town. Olander is situated on the bank of Sturgeon lake, Itasca county. Itison the line of travel between Hibbing and Koochiching, be- sides being a distributing point for the many farmers in the fertile valleys of the Sturgeon, Bear, Little Fork and Valley rivers, and is des- tined to become a town of consider- able commercial importance as that country becomes more settled. Log- ging operations will be carried on ex- tensively in that locality from now on, which will add_ to the business of the little place. County commission- er Ryan’s new road to the north will reach Olander next year, or to the county line not far from the town, and Oland: will not be so far away as pow.—Ofe, Hibbing. Card of Thanks I desire to publicly express my most sincere thanks to the many kind friends of Grand apids and else- where who so generously gave their tender aid and kindliest sympathy toward the allevjation of suffering avd sorrow during the ijlness and burial of my beloved wife. ‘Phe con- stant care bestowed upon the patient sufferer in life, the expressions and evidences of deepest sorrow and sym- pathy that came when her eyes closed forever in death and ber pure soul was rounjed back to God, are memor- ries that will ever remain with me as the consoling chapter of the saddest experience that man can know. I would cspeeially convey my thanks to Rev. Father O’Mahoney, for with his inspiring. and hopeftl words of the Eternal Life the cruel parting is made endurable. The good Catholic ladies 1 remember, too, with an ever grateful feeling; and the benevolent order of Eagles, who exampjitied the beau ty of brotherly love by attending the funeral services in a body and sending the fairest flowers, emblem- atic of the order, wo the bier of our beloved dead, have found a lasting place in my heart. r Gad bless them all forever, is my earnest prayer.
