Mr, Smith went to the Rapids Thursday to con- sult a physician. That item last week wherin it was stated that the steamer “Mud Hen,” of Cass Lake was bought by Kirk Bros. of this place, was an error. Dunn & Marcia bought the “Mud Hen” from Louis W, Hili and Kirk Bros. went to Cass Lake to bring the craft here. After getting through Winnibigoshish dam it was discovered that there was not sufficient water to float them over a rapids about 10 miles below. So an order had to be got from parties in authority to let sufficient water run for the occasion. _This is the most simply conduted village in any country on the globe, except, perhaps, an occasional one in New Zeland. We have no doctor, no lawyer, no banker, no resident preach- er, no jail, no church, one big school house, three saw mills on the river bank, | three steamboats in the river, one ditto in the river, burned, 3,000 small river craits, five general stores, two hotels, one restaurant, four places of liquid refreshments, one blacksmith shop, one postoflice, one rail road and depot, nobody sick, plenty of work, no coons, no Chinamen, a goodly many—both sexes — pressing them- selves through the matrimonial sieve, and nobody dying but a good many a-bornin’, P® CHAS.
