PROCEEDINGS | BOARD —Or— County Commissioners —OF— : ITASCA CO., MINN. Avprtor’s OFFICE, Itasca County. Minn., May 2nd. 1902. Pursuant to call the Board of County Com- missioners met at the Auditor's office the 2nd day of May, 1%, Koll call—Commissioners present: Moore, Hennessy and Fraser, Minutes of lustuneeting were read and up- on motion duly made and carried, same were approved. A communication was read’ from Hon. C. ©. Andrews, chief fire warden, calling the board's attention to the fact that he had been notified by deputy fire wardens of va- rious townships that the board had refused to allow their bills for fire warden services, and requesting the county board to audit and Brooks All the foregoing applications being rec- ommended by the Committee on Taxation: upon motion duly made and cerried, the #p- plications were allowed and recommended to the state auditor for his approval. The remaining applications for correction of assessment which had not “been approved by the committee were laid over to the next meeting. The board at this time took up the audit- ing of claims and accounts and at 5:30, upon- motion duly made and carried, an adjourn meut was taken to Monday. May 5th, at 10 o'clock a. m. Monday, May 5th, 1902. Pursuant to adjournment the board met at 10a, m, Roll call—Commissioners present; Moore, Hennessy and Fraser. Charman Brooks reported that the bridge across Popple river in town 149-27 had been built under the supervision of F. L.Vance and would recommend that the amount appropri- ated for the building of said bridge be al- lowed. \ The claim-of Minnie Kenfield in the sum of $505.00 for the board and care of smallpox patients during the months of December, 1901, and January and February, 1902, was taken up. It appearing that $239.99 was allowed to Minnie Kenfleld for the boarding of said pa- tients by the county board at their meeting of March 15th, Commissioner Moore moved that the claim presented at this time be re- ferred to the chairman of the board of health. The following bills were audited and al- lowed us follows: Brooks, allow any just claims for such services that had been or may be presented to the board. Upon motion duly made and carried the com- ion was received and ordered filed. A communication was read from W. J. Pot- ter requesting the county board to tuke ac- tion upon the petition presented to the board at their last meeting for the organization of « school district, stating that if in the opin- ion of the board the territory embraced in said petition was too large that the petition- ers would be istied with a smaller amount of territory, Chairman Brooks, to whom the petition was referred, stated that he was unable to make a report at the present time but would immediately take steps to inform himself as to the merits of suid petition and would report at the next meeting. The com- munication of Mr, Potter was ordered filed. Messrs. Peterson and Ingersoll cume be- fore the board in behalf of a petitfon for the opening up cf a county road beginning at section 28, town 54, range 23, thence running arallel with the Eastern Minuesota railway ing with the Grand Rapids road at the Prairie river bridge in section 26, town o, range 23. Mr. Sandberg also came before the bourd and requested that an appropria- tion be made for the comstraction of « bridge across Swan Kiver in section 28, township ot, range 23. Aftera hearing of the gentlemen present, on motion duly made and carried, ie matter w: referred to the road and ge committee. W. C. Gilbert. made application for the abatement of the penalty and interest upon NE of the SE sec. 12, Tp. 55, Range SW of NW Sec. 7, N4s of Sts of Bee. 11, Tp. Oy Range 24, for the years 1895 ty 1%0 inclu- sive, ALC tion of mssard made application for correc- sessment and abatement of taxes on property owned by the Grand Rapids Water Power & Boum Co. in the town of Bass Brook, on the grounds that the assessment exceeded the value of the property so assessed, and re- quested that the assessment be reduced one half. Thos. W. Sims made application for the correction of assessment and abatement of taxes on the SW, of SE's, Sec. 13, E% of NE%4 and NW4 of NE% See. 2 448, Range or the years 1900 and 1901, in which he ed that the assessment be reduced one- alfand the taxes correspondingly abated. for the reasou that all merchantable umber been removed from suid lands, prior to said time. Heury Logan made application for an ubatementof penalty and interest upon lots 3, 4 and 5, block 13, 19-20 and 21- block $1, First Division and lot 19, block 19, origiual plat, for the year 1900, amounting to the sum of $13.54. Elja M, Kobinson made applicauion for the correction of assessment and abatement of taxes upon the S. 9 feet of W. 149 feet. of block 45, original plat, fpr the years 189% to 1900 inclusfye, ju which she asked that the as- seme tN cyeed Que-half and the taxes correspondingly abated fur the reason that the building had been destroyed by fire but had not been corrected upon the assessment roll. The Tabor Lumber Co, made application for correction of assessment and abatement of taxes ubon a list of 24 descriptions in which they asked that the assessment be re- duced and taxes abated on the same basis as the correction made on said land for the year 1900. Geo. S. Libby made application for the cor- rection of assessment and abatementof taxes upon the 8's of NW+4: Sec. 21, .Tp: 62, Range 23, for the years 1898 to 1901 inclusive, in which he asked that the taxes upon the same be re- duced from $190.10 to $100. At this time an adjournment was taken to Saturday, May 3, 1902. at 10 o'elock a, m. Saturday. May 3, 19¢2. Pursuant to adjournment the board met at 10a. m. Roll cull—Commissioners present: Moore. Hennessy and Fraser. J. H. Dunning made applicatien for the cancellation of taxes upon lot 3, Sec. 15, Tp, 59, Range 25,on the grounds that the same was government land and got subject to tax- ition. J, Andrews made application for a re- fundment of the amount of taxes paid by him on the NW% of SW Sec. 25, Wis of NEW W of NW4,SE% of SEX Sec. 30,Tp. nge 29, being taxes for the years 1894 to 1900 inclusive. also the amount paid by him as costs in the giving of notices of expi- ration of redemption on said lands, upon the grounds that the lands were the property of the U.S. government and not subject ta tax- ation. : J. E. Sullivan made application for a re- fundment of $16.82, the amount of penalty und interest paid by him on the SE4 of NE, lots 2. 3, 6 und 7, Sec. 1, Town 144, Range 35,8 B. P. Munson made application for correc tion of assessment and abatement of taxes upon a list of lands upon which he was the owner of the timber, in which he asked that the valuation be reduced and the taxes abated to tae same amount as carrected for the year 1900. Also an application for correc- tion of assessment and abatement of taxes upon a list of land on which all the merch- untable timper had been removed prior to the Ist of May, 1900, and asked that the as- sessment be reduced and the taxes abated to the valuation of cut over lands. Also an ap- plication for the abatement of the penalty und interest upon the N¥% of SW% and SE% of SW% and SE%4 of SW Sec, 35-59-22, for the year 1399.
