Pursuant to adjournment. the board of County Commissioners of Itasca county, Minnesota, met ut the Auditor's office this Ist day of March, A. D. 1901. at 2 o’clock p.m. Roll call, full board present. @lhe minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. D.A. Dann came before the board and asked for a correction of his personal pro- perty assessment, and asked that item No. 5. 17, 18, and 22 be reduced and the taxes bo missioner Moore moved that item No.5 be re- duced $120,00, item No. 17 be reduced $1,500,00, item No. 18 be reduced $2,200.00 and item No. 22 be reduced $300.00, and the taxes on same be correspondingly abated. The motion was mously adopted. Henry Hughes came before the board and and asked that the personal property assess- ment of Privatz & Hughes be abated upon the grounds that the assessment was made upon a mortgage, which said mortgzuge had been foreclosed and not subject to taxation. After some discussion the matter was laid upon the table. Mrs. Anthony Woods came before the board und requested a correction in her personal property assessment, for the reason she had item No, 5 be reduced $8, and item No. 22 be reduced $35, and the taxes on the same be cor respondingly abated. The motion was duly seconded and upon roll call was unanimously adopted. R. H. Patterson cume before the board and requested that item No. 21 of his personal property assessment be reduced frnm $1,000.00 to $200.00. Commissioner Hennessy moved that the item be reduced $800.(0, and the taxes correspondingly abated. The motion unanimously adopted. Mrs. M. McAlpine camo before the board on behalf of Mrs. L. D’Anjou, and asked that the taxes upon the west 40 feet of the west half of lot 1, 3, 14 and 15, in block 16, original plat for the years 1896 to 1899 inclusive be reduced ont half, together with the penalties and interest thereon. After a careful consideration of the request, Commissioner Lang moved that the abatement asked for, be allowed and recom- mended to the State Auditor for his approv‘al. The motion was duly seconded and carried C. Miller made application for a refund- ment tothe amount of $152.78, same being for an error made in entering receipt number A 1637, same being entered for the full amount 96.14, when it should have been entered as an undivided one-half being $49.07. Receipt nom- ber 9769entered as an undivided one-half amounting to $47.46 should have been entered 34 ofan undivided 4 or $23.73, also receipts numbered 95 and 154 amounting to 356.25 which said receipts has been entered through error as paid. Copies of the receipts being attached to the application. Commissioner Hennessy moved that the board, being satisfied that the statement made in the foregoing application were true, that the refundment be allowed and recommended to the State Anditor for his approval. The motion was duly seconded and upon roll call was unanimously adopied. James O’Harra made application for tho abatement of penalty and interest upon. lands in township 60 range 23 for the years 1896 to 1899 inclusive. Upon motion duly made and carried, the application was allowed. C, H. Marr made application for correction of assessment and abatement of taxes upon lots in the village of Grand Rapids for the years 1897 and 1899 The abatement asked for amounting to 103.25. Upon motion duly made and carried, the abatement was allowed and recommended to the State Auditor for his approval. Brown & Harrison made application for a correction of assessment and abatement of taxes upon lands owned by them in township 55-24-56-24, 56-25 and 55-26 for the year 1899 upon the grounds that said lands wero as- sessed as timber lands, and that all timber on said lands has been removed. prior to the time the assessment was made and that the assess- ment upon the lands has been corrected by the board of county commissioners for the year 1898, wherefor the asked that the assessment be reduced to the assessment as levied for the year 1900 upon said lands, and that the taxes be correspondingly abated... Upon motion duly made and carried the application was al- lowed and recommended to the State Auditor for his approval. At this time an adjournmcnt was taken to 10a. m,, Mareh 2nd 1901, March 2nd, 1901. Pursuant to adjournment the board met at 10 a.m. Roll call full board present. W. D. Washburn Jr. made application for the correction of assessment and- abatement of taxes upon lands owned by him for the year 1898. The abatement asked for amounting to $225.00. On motion duly made and carried, the abatement was allowed and recommended to the Staie Auditor for his approval. The application of the Jobn Martin Lumber company for an abatement of penalty und in- terest on land owned by them was upon mo- tion duly made and carried, laid upon the table. Mr. Rodolph came before the board and re cor- respondingly abated. G. Purdy, over and above the amount of their taxes for the year 1899, which said appli- eation had been laid upon the table ata pre- vious meeting of the board, be taken from the table and considered by tho board at this time, Upon motion duly made and carried the application was taken from the table for consideration. After an explanation by Mr. Rodolph, Commissioner Lang moved that the refundment asked for be allowed and recom- mended to the State Auditor for his approval. The motion was duly seconded and upon roll call was unanimously adopted. The committee on purchasing and supplies reported that they had met at the Auditor's office on January 2ist., 1901,and had received and considered the bids offered for wood, and had awarded the contract for furnishing the same as follows: J. H« Romans 150 cords of green jack pine @ $2.25 per cord. L. W. Hunt- ley, 75 cords of green tamarac @ $2.45, per cord. M. Hagen, 75 cords.of green jack pine @ 22-45 percord. Upon motion duly made aud car- ried the report of the committee was accepted, and the contracts as made by them approved. ‘The financial statement of the county for the year 1900 as prepared by the County Auditor, was submitted for the approval of the board, and after a careful review of the same, Com- missioner Hennessy moved that the statement as prepared by the County Auditor be approv- ed by the board and respectfully submitted to the tax payers of Itasca county. The motion was duly seconded and upon roll call was unanimously adopted. As per advertisement for proposals for the running of the county por farm, there were two prososals presented, and read one from Robert H. Bailey, of Grand Rapids, and one from A. M. Sisler,of Laprairie. After dis- cussing the matter at some length it was deemed advisable for the bourd to inspect the poor farm and to determine tne best plan for the running of the same before any action was taken upon the proposals. Upon motion duly made and earried the proposals were laid upon the table for further consideration. The motion was duly seconded and carried, Commissioner Moore moved that James A. Quigg be appointed county assessor for the unorganized portion of Itasca county, for the ensuing year.
