And After They Have Looked Into Our Qualifications the Matter Will be Definitely settled---A Little Advice to Pupils Attending. Superintendent Carroll of Central school is in receipt of a letter from | informing | State Itspector Rankin, him that that gentleman, accompan- ied by High School Inspector Aiton, will be in Grand Rapids at an early date to consider the advisability of placing our educational institution on the high school list. Besides the additional prestage such action would give our village, it would give us a yearly apportionment of $800 per year from the high school fund, instead of the $200 we have been re- ceiving as a graded school. This move was decided on by reason of the excellent showing made at the state examination by the pupils of the higher grades attending school here. At the January examination more papers were sent in to be passed upon by the state board than were sent in altogether last year, and the ‘forth- coming June examination will see~s many more handled. The high rat- ing that these papers have merited, together with the fact that high vol work bas been done in the senior grade here for some time, no doubt decided tbe state educational authorities to give us every Oppor- tunity to secure a place on the bigher list. There pre at present fifteen pupils in the eighth room doing high school work exclusively, and before the first of September all the pupils in this room will have taken up these studies. Now, there is a matter that Profes- sor Carroll and the other teachers would like to impress upon the minds of parents and pupils: When the inspectors arrive, one of the things that they will examine closely into is the attendance in rooms immediately below the Eighth. They will want to know where we are going to get our future high school material from. The fact that the pupils now in tbe Highth are entitled to and fitted for advancement will not count unles there are oth below them who wiil be ready to take their places when they have completed their studies and dropped out. It sometimes hap- pens that the attendance in the Sixth and Seventh rooms is not as satis- factory as it might be, and should the inspectors come on a dzy when any covsiderable uumber of the pupils in these rooms were absent, it might be the cause of depriving us of the honor of having a high school and of the increased revenue thereto at- tached. It is tu be hoped thaz pupils, particularly those in the two rooms mentioned, will make it a point to be in attendance regularly henceforth. Household Goods for Sale.
