The amount of outstanding indebted- ness will come due at ofice and a levy must be made to discharge the obli- gation. This would bring the rate of taxation on these orders - alone up to about 9 per cent. The council is no more interested in the premises than any other citizens of Grand Rapids. Under the law of 1895 the bonds could have been issued directly by the trustees without submitting to the voice of the people, but this the mem- bers did not propose to do, prefering to allow every voter a chance to ex- press his individual opinion. “Attorney Price was expounding corporation law to the village fathers at Deer River ‘Tuesday evening.
