PLATFORM Adopted by the Demoerats of the Fifiy-Second Legislative District. We, the representatives of the Bemocratic party of the 52nd Legis- jdtive District of the State of Minne- Sota in convetion assembled at Grand Rapids, do hereby reaffirm our alle- ance to the national platform adopt: e _ Chicago in 1896, and to those principles as enunciated in the state and congressional platfarms of 1898, and plete 0 poe our unswerving sopport during the present campaign and until their demands shall Wave become the established governmental policy. We recall with pride the glorious campaign made in [896 under the matchless leadership of Hon. W. qd I an, whose devotion to the princ p of free gavernment has endearei him to our herrts, and installed him as the foremost leader of tric democracy. Wecom mend the wise and patriotrs actions of the Democratic senaton und representatives in congress in the momentous with which the nation was confronted qn the out- break of the war with Spain and point with pleasure to the fact that Uhey ignored partisanship and united with their fellow members in utaliz- ing eve resource, moeral and ma- terial, for a vigorous and triumphant conclusion of the war. oe SAME OLD FATALISTS. Of This Class Were Some of the Bravest Soldiers. A well known soldier-writer describes tm an interesting book some instances. of the escapes of fatalists. “What wil be will be. If I shall be rt, I be shot,” is the theory they believe in, and on more than one occasion, by their consumate daring and coolness, they have escaped with their lives when their comrades have fallen on all sides. One of the most interesting escapes of this description occurred in the Indian mutiny, when the Sepoy rebels were assaulting the Bank ot Delhi. Three men were seated on the of the bank when the natives abil a heavy fire from the houses opposite. A warn- ing voice called to the men on the steps to come at once under shelter. The fatalist waved his hand gn reply. At the same moment the two men sit- ting on either side of him were riddled with bullets, one receiving seven in his body, while he himself was untouched. On another occasion a live shell drop- ped into a siege betas and buried it- self in the ground. Instantly every. man fell on his face except the fatalist. “Lie down, you fool!” they. galled out to him. Quietly taking a cigar from his mouth, he answered: “I am not going to put myself out tfor—’ At that mo- ment the shell exploded, carrying away &@ piece from his trousers. He caimly pointed to his legs to finish his sent- ence. Another instance of fatalism men- tioned was that of the man who quiet- ly stood in the middle of the street te uh ND Wi Wy d Y Ui Y SREREIETE RE RE RE ETE RERE RIC ICT IOIOI I HERE RE ME NONI Rae a: See better and feel better. “A Good Suit” is always a winner. is an old saying well worth considering. has obtained positions and made a start in life by being wel! dressed.
