The parents have the sympathy of the community 1n their bereavement. The Sheriff handsome countenance of Toole was ‘missed from his usual haunts this, week, a severe at- | tack of gastricites confining him to his rooms, We are pleased to announce that he is convelesing rapidly. Tomorrow morning, in the Presby- terian church, Rev. Mackenzie will speak on some of the chief feature of the recent meeting of the synod ‘of Minnesota. One of the oldest min- isters present said it was one of the best synods he had ever attended. Come out tomorrow morning and catch a breath of the Presbyterian oxygen. ‘The season for the killing of deer, moose and caribou opens next Tues- day, and préparatoty ’ thereto.an unusually large number of hunters have arrived here during the past | week and gone up into the pineries and’ Jocated themselves where the “runways” are many and deer are plentiful. A. M. Ross of St, Paul has taken charge of the Gladstone barber shop. John Osborn who has done the hon- ors in presiding over that institution during the pest five years, has gone to. Pike Bay and may conclude to Jocate there permanently. Mr. Ross has the reputation ofbemg one of the most skilled tonsorial artists in the country and ne doubt will give entire satisfaction to his patrons. He will be pleased to. meet all the old custom- ers of Mr. Osborn and as many new ones as will give him a call. Four new arrivals in the homes of four of our citizens. during the past week brought joy unalloyed to the hearts of the niembersof each. of the families of the happy parents. On the Isth inst a boy was born to Mrs. and Mrs. Thos. Severd, and a son and heir made his advent in the home of Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Logan on the same date. The 16th inst. brought a bouncing baby girl to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Buckley, and on the 17th a sweet bunch of female loveliness made her appearance in the home of Druggist Bell. To the happy parents the Herald-Review. extends its heartiest congratulations. The advent of the \deer-killing sea- son recalls to mind the fatalities which have occurred 1n this county in past season, and it is to be hoped that the coming season will close without a repetition of those inex- cusable blunders whereby human life has been taken over the mistaking of a man for a deer. No hunter can pos- sibly be excused for making such a mistake, and none would occur if the huntsman. would use a littie judg- ment when he is chasing the wily deer. Don’t shoot into moving brush when you know not what it is that causes the commotion—be abso- Intely sure of the game: before you shoot—and then human life will never be taken through mistake. We hope all visiting and local huntess will heed this advise, and thereby save us the painful task of chronical- ing a fatality during this hunting sea- son. The Grand Rapids orchestra is the latest adjunct to local musical circles, and undoubtedly. the organization comes into being “to fill a long felt want.” For some time past the givers of social functions have been com- pelled to1mport the musicians to play at their entertainments,’ oft’times being put to great inconvenience to secure the musical features, but with the organization of the home orches- tra these trials are at end, and_here- after the music numbers on the pro- grams of local entertainments will be taken care of by. the new orchestra. Its personnel comprises the best talent in this neck of the woods, and the members are studiously engaged nightly in practicing up a lot of the latest dance music and operatic selec- tions. ‘To launch an enterprise of this kind necessitates'a goodly’ outlay of money, and every good citizen should show’ his appreciation of the jnstitution of the orchestta by giving ——— it material assistance whenever the opportunity occurs. The first chance to do this will be next Friday evening, when thy orchestra will give a dance at Village hall, Let everybody. turn out. ‘lickets 50 cents. Some Resvlutions.
