= CSrand Reavits Heras Review City ‘and Vicinity. NOTES OF NEWS AND PERSONAL. Micheal McAlpine spent the week in Hibbing. Mrs. D. M. Gunn made the Zenith city a visit Tuesday. Rev. J. C, Hartley will hold M, E, services at Deer River tomorrow. C. H. Marr, made a flying visit to Duluth yesterday, returning last night. W. E. Neal returned last night from his visit to his home at Northfield, Mirn, Geo. F. Meyers made a trip to Ait- kin last week, returning Monday night. I. D. Rassmussen and wife made a flying tnp to Duluth the fore part of| yy theiweek. Mrs. F, -J. Stevens left Thursday morning for a short visit with frends in Minneapolis. Mrs. C. M. Storch went to Duluth this morning for a two week’s visit with her parents. J. B. O’Rielly was summoned to the bedside of his mother at Quio, Quebec, this week. A.H. Powers came over from Hib- bing yesterday, and this morning he left for Minneapolis. Mrs. Frank F. rice and made a visit to Duluth this returning home last evening. Foremen D.C. Conners and J. H. Miller, for the Freeman & Gray com- pany, are in the village today. Mine Host Churchill of the Deer River House, Deer River, was a coun- ty metropolis visitor this week. Genetal Agent Smith of the C., St. P.,M.&O. Ry., of Duluth, made Grand Rapids a visit this week, State Boiler Inspector Larson, of Duluth, inspected the boilers of the several mills, etc., here this week. son week, Rev. D. A. McKenzie was an east- bound passenger on ‘Tuesday morn- ing’s train. He returned Thursday. The genial countenance of J. E. Tapley 1s seen no more.on our streets, he having left for Salem, N. D., on Monday last. J. D. Cambell, of Hibbing, tarried here a few days this week while en route to Bemediji. He was the guest of J. E. Johnson. Misses Jean and Martha Rosser, who had been visiting here for some time past, left for their home in Du- luth on Monday last. E. G. Bailey, an old residenter hereahouts, left last Tuesday morning for Minneapolis, where he intends to make his home hereafter. Henry Logan returned from Howell, Mich., last evening, where he was called to attend the funeral of his sis- ter, Mrs. Willam Doyle. Ye old settlers hereabouts will be grieved to learn of the death of Chas. A. Cook, an old First Minnesota veteran, at Aitkin last Monday. Dr. Allen’s cottage, at Pokegama lake—Idlewild—is for rent during the season or will be sold by Kremer & King: Apply-at Abstract office. Dr. Ehle will shortly commence the erection of a commodious office build- ing ona. site adjoining the Nesbitt Jewelery Co.’s store building on Le- land avenue. Clerk of Court Rassmussen, Al. Bishop, Alex Roberts, and Elmer Rassmussen were among the lucky filers for claims in 61-26 at the Du- luth land office last week. Mr. W. C. Gilbert will Jzave for Wisconsin on ‘Tuesday next to meet his family, who <are returning from their visit with Mrs. Gilbert’s tather, Governor McCord of Arizona. George F. Porter and C. E. Seelye, members of the Pokegama Log & Lumber company, were passengers to Deer River last evening. ‘hey are making preparations for the drive. Rev. August Andren will conduct Episcopal services at the Methodist church of this village tomorrow as follows: Sunday school; 10 a. m; prayer at 11 a. ms evening «service at 7:30 0’clock. Mr. and Mrs. G. Maher spent Sun- day last in Deer River, where the former was called to the bedside of his sister, Mrs, Jas: Sulivan, who has a dangerous attack of pneumonia. The Herald-Review is pleased to an- nounce that Mrs. Sullivan is: convels- ing. Gene Neveux, who has been in North Dakota during the past two years, arrived here Monday evening and will remain two or three weeks renewing old acquaintances, and in- cidentally shaving a few old faces at Dodson’s barber shop. Gene has a shop of his own at Lanmore, N. De and says he 1s doing well, Some of our denizens are experi- menting with the bee raising industry , the result of which will be watched with interest by our farmers. Geo. F.! Kremer and E..L. At a regular meeting of the village council of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, held at the vil- lage hall ont: jay, April 5th, 1898, the fol- lowing were present: President Trainor, ‘Trustees O'Connell. Vient and Smith, and Recorder Xing. Minutes of last meeting were read and on motion approved. On motion G. W. Price and 37 other residents. freeholders und taxpayers of the village was presented praying for the erec- tion of a public building and other public improvements looking toward the permanent operation in said village of a pulp and paper mill or mills, the cost Whereof to said village shall not exceed Ten Thousand Dollars, to be paid forin bonds to be issued by said village of Grand Rapids, and further pray- ing that said village council take the necés- sary steps tocause said proposition to be submitted to the electors of said village ata special election to be called by said vilfage council.
