The Herald- } Review wishes him unbounded suc- cess. Fire totally destroyed the house of Duncan Harris at Pokegama lake early last Monday morning. It was occupied by Mr. Harris and Robt. MrCabe. who are logging in that vi- cimity, and they had stored therein a | goodly quantity of supplies, which to- gether with the contents were con- sumed by the flames. The origin of the fire 1s unknown but it is supposed to be the work of an incendiary. No insurance. On Sunday last the bridge crew of the Great Northern extension drove the first pile for the bridge over Ball Club thoroughfare. They expect to have the bridge completed by March 15. Dhfficulty has been experienced in securing oak piling suitable for the | coustruction, the timber needed be- ing from 33 to 4o feet in length, per- fectly straight and sound, but this has timber has been found in the immedi- ate neighborhood The Glorious Fourth will be cele- brated in Grand Rapids this year on a scale never attempted before, and to this end the local G. A. R. post has taken the initiatory step, and has al- ready selected a committee on ar- rangements for the celebration, which will be held under the post’s auspices The committee comprises Comrades Bailey, Leahy, Borden, Cramer, Lee- man, Mallette, Wilson and Kennes- ton, and Messrs.
