American Fables. ‘There is a new Aesop in the person of Joho Bryan, of Ohio, who has writ- ten some very clever fables. Many fables are written in this country from day to day, but they are not Aesopian, and Bryan is the only man who seems to have hit the mark. There is no fable, however, about the pularity of the Saint Paul & Du- uth Railroad, for it is a distinet feat- ure and has been for years. The Du- luth Short Line, as it is popularly known, has always been the favorite route for the business man or the ordinary tourist, because its facilities are up to date and its service of the highest order of merit. Its fast trains run between St. Paul, Minneapolis, Duluth, West Superior, Stillwater, Taylor’s Falls and other points, an the entire right of way is gemmed by the loveliest summer resorts in the country, so that there is a double at- traction. Convenient schedules gov- ernall passenger trains, and close connections are made with trains and boats runningin all directions. Al- ways take the Duluth Short Line and go with the crowd. Tayxor, Regist r. A No Sunday Trains. s The UnitedStates supreme court decision holding the Georgia law con- stitutional which prohibits the opera- tion of freight trains within that state on Sundays seems to conflict with the provisions of the interstate commerce law which was framed to maintain free and uninterrutped com- merce between the states. Twoof the supreme justices dissented from the opinion on this account, but the de- cision will stand in Georigia and any other state that may adopt it until a direct national law supersedes it. As ageneral peapoattion the Georgia Sunday lawis all right. If freight trains are run day and night six days in the week they ought to handle the traffic of the country without working on Sundays. The enforcementof the law in Georgia until other states shall adopt it will annoy trunk lines tra- versing that state, but no great detri- ment to any business interests will result. Railroad employes are entitled to a day’s rest as well as other workers and it will be agood thing if obsserva- tion of the Georgia law results in a suspension of Georgia freight traffic in surronding states. Canada has for years demonstrated that the freight business may be suspended on Sundays without complications, and even street railways are not hermnliee to be operated in some Canadian cities, and the general public has become accustomed to even this prohibition and seems _to make no serious complaint. The legislator who should propose a natio- nal law against Sunday freight traftic would not be so far in advance of public ecnyimeny as one mane su , for previous agitation of the aitlect disclosed the fact that a num- ber of the railroad magnates approved the Sunday prohibition.
