TS | | CURB—Stocks - - _—- Sbex sho Dividens On Stock Market Carriers Up Fractions To $2, but Other Changes Are ‘Smoll By VICTOR EUBANK, Associated Press Financial Writer. NEW YORK, Jan. 2¢—Stock mar- ket steam again was concentrated in the rails today with many in- dustrial leaders, as in the past week, doing little or nothing. Demand for transportation issues appeared at the start and favorites in this department extended yes- terday's late advance by fractions to around 2 points. Minor im- provement was the ruleelsewhere at the close, although exceptions were plentiful. Dealings quickened at intervals | and transfers for the short session approximated 300,000 shares, against | 220,000 last Saturday. Both carrier stocks and bonds, brokers said, seemingly retained | their popularity on the belief the | Interstate Commerce Commission would follow its passenger fare de- cree with a boost for freight rates. There was much discussion, how- ever, as to whether shipping charges would be lifted 7 or 10 per cent. A number of observers leaned to the | former figure notwithstanding the 10 per cent fare grant.
