Trade Outlook Favorable. The outlook for business in the Fall nd Winter months is characterized 7 the National Association Credit len as “highly encouraging.’ The presence of four important fac- s, says the monthly business re- iew by the executive manager, “should ntinue to accelerate business in the eeks ahead, culminating in a holi- 1y trade equal to or somewhat better 1an last year.” The stimulants to better business in le coming months listed by the as- ciation are: “1. Labor, receiving a more gener- us share, will satisfy more consump- ive wants.” Railroad Revenues Rise. Railroad revenues are on the sharp ipswing. This was indicated in pre- iminary reports from 90 Class I rail- oads, representing 78 per cent of the otal operating revenues, howed, according to the Association | *f American Railroad: n July, 1937, had estimated or evenues amounting to $280.041,407 compared with 2924271 in the same month of 1936, and $: 255,661 in the same month of 1930. Operating revenues of these roads in July, 1937, were 2.6 per cent above those for July, 1936, but 21.2 per cent below July, 1920. Freight revenues of the 90 Class I railroads in July, 1937, amounted to $223,633.436, compared with $221,203,- 637 in July, 1936, and $271,310,694 in July, 1930. Freight revenues in July, 1937, were 1.1 per cent above the same month of 1936, but 17.6 per cent below the same month in 1930. Passenger revenues in July, 1037, according to these preliminary re- ports from 90 Class I railroads, totaled $32,731,408 compared with $30,523,- 991 in July, 1936, and $52.777.754 in y, 1930. For the month of Jul they were 7.2 per cent above the same month of 1936, but 38.0 per cent below the same month in 1930. Transfer Is Authorized. The board of directors of Perpetual Building & Loan Association has au- thorized the transfer of $200,000 from which | that these lines | ting | undivided profits to the surplus ac- | count of the associatio: nounced today by Edw C. Baltz, secretary. This brings the surplus account of Perpetual up to $1,800,000 During the first half of 1937 the loan associations in the Winston- Salem Home Loan Bank district, in- cluding this city, made loans for con- struction purposes of $16,102,000, ac- cording to a report by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. Washington participated largely in this report, as 20 building and loan associations here are members of the Home Loan Bank system. In the Winston-Salem district, ac- cording to the report, cost of labor used in a six-room house increased 3 per cent over March. Material Pprices increased 2 per cent during the same period. Potomac Electric Power 6 per cent preferred was active on the Washing- ton Stock Exchange today, changing hands in five blocks at prices rang- ing from 113 to 113'%, back to 113. The same company’s 5'2 per cent preferred sold at 11015, Capital Trac- tion 5s went at 86, while Anacostia & Potomac 5s went at 70. Personal Mention. E. C. Graham, president of Hamil- ton National Bank, is enjoying a few days’ vacation on his boat, cruising the Chesapeake Bay and other inland waterways. According to latest reports he was at Wilmington, Del. C. J. Goeckler, assistant vice presi- dent of the Hamilton National Bank, is visiting his mother and sister at Ventnor, N, J. C. E. Kefauver, secretary of the Oolumbia Building Association, will leave next week for a trip to New Eng- land and Canada, — . CRUDE OIL OUTPUT SET AT 3,509,300 BARRELS By the Associated Press. The Bureau of Mines estimated to- day a daily average production of 3,509,300 barrels of crude oil would be | required to meet the Nation's demands for September. The estimate was 46400 barrels higher than August and 476,900 higher than a year ago. ‘The Bureau said in its monthly fore- east that crude oil production during the five weeks from June 26 to July 31 averaged about 3,571,000 barrels daily and that during that period crude ofl stocks increased 571,000 bar- Tels net. it was an- NEW YORK SUGAR.
