Yager, 52, vice president and Wash- ington representative of the Cau- thorne Paper Co. of Richmond, Va., who died yester- day from illumi- nating gas in his home in the Woodley Park Towers, 2737 Devonshire place, will be held in Roancke, Va. Herman Henry Bernard Meyer, 73, retired head of the Legislative Ref- erence Service of the Library of Con- gress, died late yesterday of pneu- monia at his home, 3701 Massachu- setts avenue. Mr. Meyer was widely known as a bibliographer and librarian over a long period. had distinguished himself as an en- gineer, He had been prominent in many organizations, having been an offi- cer in a number of them, and had compiled many bibliographies on so- clal, economic and political questions during the period from 1909 to 1921. Mr. Meyer also had collected a pri- vate library of more than 10,000 vol- umes on fine printing in America and first editions of English and American authors. He was retired from the Library in November, 1935, after having had charge of the Legislative Reference Service there since 1921. Granted Engineering Degree. Born in New York City on October 17, 1864, Mr. Meyer was graduated with an engineer of mines degree from Columbia University in 1885. He went to the Pratt Institute Library School, 1901-2, and received the degree of doctor of literature from Howard University in 1922. After receiving his engineering de- gree, he was engaged in gas light en- | gineering for the Oregon Iron Works in New York until 1897. He was con- struction engineer for the Brooklyn Unlon Gas Co. from 1897 to 1901. In the latter year he decided to take up library work. Mr. Meyer went to work at the Li- brary of Congress in 1905, serving as chief of the periodical division until 1906. From then until 1908 he was chief of the order division. From the latter year until 1923 he was chief bibliographer, meanwhile having been made director of the legislative ref- erence service. Held Association Office.
