UNIDENTIFIED BAB ISFOUND INW00DS Infant of 18 Months Is Dis- covered by Body of Dead Woman. B the Assoclated Press. BAINBRIDGE, Ga., November 23— An 18-month-old boy lay il in a Bainbridge hospital today while offi- cers endeavored to identify him and the woman beside whose body he was found In a woods near here. The baby’s cries led to discovery yesterday of the body of the 30-year- old woman, believed by Sheriff W. J. Catledge to have been the child’s mother. A finger ring initialed “B,” a carpet slipper on a bruised foot and clothes of medium quality failed to give offi- cers any clear clues to the woman’s identity. The baby is unable to talk. Catledge said her face was swollen from a fatal blow. Lack of any evi- dence of a struggle in the woods led him to the theory she was killed else- where and her body, along with the baby, brought to the spot where they | were found by a colored youth pass- 1ng on his way to Sunday school. Catledge said he was unable to find any one In the vicinity who recalled having seen her before. A physician estimated she had been dead 12 hours before the body was discovered, about 10:30 am. The baby was suffering from a cold and running a fever from exposure. Officers found no purse with the body and considered robbery a pos- sible motive for the killing. Catledge said a physician found no signs of & criminal assault. The woman—brunette, brown-eyed, 8 feet 4 or 5 inches tall—was wearing a black topcoat with fur collar over & dress trimmed with red buttons and a red belt buckle, She had three gold-crowned teeth. The carpet slipper covered a taped heel, which Catledge said apparently had been infected from a bruise. The child resembles the woman from the mouth up, although he has light hair and blue eyes, Catledge said. At the hospital the baby was listed as unidentified and Catledge “guesses” he is “Decatur County’s baby until we ean identify the woman.” The place where the body was found is in the southwest corner of Georgia, near where Georgia, Florida and Alabama meet.
