C, MRS. ELLIEKEE, SUCCUMBS HERE Was Widow of Two Civil War Veterans—Worked for Government. Mrs. Ellie House Kee, 83, widow of two Civil War veterans who had been friends in the same unit under Gen. Grant, died yesterday at her home, 4915 Pourth street, after a short ill- ness. Her second husband, a first cousin of Francis Scott Key, changed the spelling of his last name while in the Union Army because of the mail- man's confusion between him and two other Thomas Keys in his regi- ment. Mrs. Kee's two husbands, James W. House and Thomas Scott Kee, were boyhood friends in Wisconsin, It was not until a short time before his friend's death, however, that Kee met the woman who was later to become his wife. On his death bed here, House sent for Kee and asked him to look out for his wife and three children. A few years later, after House's death, the couple were married.
