A-10 SUCDE POSSBLE INFARM SLAYIG Authorities at New City, N. Y., Release All Princi- pals After Questioning. By the Associated Press. NEW CITY, N. Y., November 23.— Rockland County authorities, ham- pered by lack of substantial clues, to- night released from questioning all principals in the Ramapo Mountain drama climaxed by the gun-death of 24-year-old Leroy Smith, farm youth. District Attorney George V. Dorsey eontinued to investigate a theory that the slayer of the young farmer was motivated by jealousy. Persons Involved. The dramatis personae in the death mystery included: Smith, whose body, penetrated by a .32-caliber bullet, was found Thurs- | day near the colonial home of Mary Swope Philpot, 16-year-old girl bride, who admitted to police that she had been on friendly terms with Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Salamon, stepfather and mother of Mary, who were reported to have sought an an- nulment months ago of their daugh- ter’'s marriage to Luther Philpot. | Luther Philpot, 19, who insisted, ' under questioning, that he met Smith only this week. Friend of Husband. Carl Stottlenyer, a friend of the youthful husband. District Attorney Dorsey announced that the original theory of suicide, since discarded, had grown more ten- able. “New facts mave arfsen that make suicide a possibility,” he explained. A revolver found about 25 feet from Smith’s body has been turned over to ballistics experts for possible finger- print clues. THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, Captures Horseshow Honors D.
