LOCKWOOD FUNERAL TOMORROW Veteran Capital Telegrapher Dies at Home After Long Illness. William E. Lockwood, veteran teleg- rapher, died at his home, 519 Ten- nessee avenue, Friday morning after a long illness. “BilL,” as he was known among the telegraph fraternity, started pounding he “key” at the age of 14 with the Western Union Telegraph Co. At that time the messages were copied with pen and ink, as the typewriter was still to be invented. During the war he was detailed to the War Department in Washington and later worked a financial wire for the Assoclated Press. His later years were spent in the wire room of the Weather Bureau here. He was retired there about two years ago and had been confined to his bed for the past year. His widow, Marie T. Lockwood, is connected with the M. Pasternak store here. He also leaves four daughters, Mrs. Rudolph H. Yeatman, jr.; Misses Agnes, Elizabeth and Rita Lockwood, and two sons, Edward W., who is con- nected with the N. Auth Provision Co., and Joseph. Funeral services will be held at his late home tomorrow at 8:30 am., fol- lowed by a high requiem mass at Holy Comforter Church at 9 o'clock. - India Eighth.
