FINAL EXERGISES ARE HELD FOR 183 Washington-Lee School Holds Graduation—Hon- ors Awarded. By & Staff Correspondent of The Star. BALLSTON, Va, June 12.—With four years of high school behind them, 183 graduates of Washington-Lee last night wers presented diplomas at the commencement exercises in the school in the presence of more than 1500 persons. The awarding of scholarships and medals to honor graduates climaxed the commencement ceremonies, during which addresses were made by John | M. Stewart, chairman of the county achool board, and Dr. H. Gordon Hayes of the Department of Com-| merce. &. P. Vanderslice, principal, an- nounced the honor students just be-| fore County School Superintendent Fletcher Kemp awarded the diplomas. Students whose averages were bet- ter than 90 were Ida Jeanne Rose Maxine Cardwell, Merwyn M. McKnight, Charles Franklin Bild, William Lee Page, Eugene Mead Caf- fey and Alexander Long, jr. The Parent-Teacher Association Medal was awarded to Miss Mohundro, with lesser medals going to Miss Smith and Miss Payne. William Lee Page and Ida Jeanne Dagger won the de- sirable all-round student medais for boys and girls, while Miss Cardwell took the oratorical medal. Medais for the best boy and girl athletes went to Orlando Birch and Elizabeth Dinges. Robert Blake won the medal for mechanical drawing. Urged for Scholarships.
