PHILLIPS, Associated Press Pinancial Writer., NEW YORK, December 15.—Trad- ing activity was at a slow pace on the Curb Exchange today, and other than adjusting accounts for the week end there was little speculative commit- ment. Prices moved in a narrow range and most groups were steady, especially the industrials and special- ties. Advances of 1 to 2 points were made by Western Auto Supply, United Shoe Machinery, Sherwin-Williams, Pitts- burgh Plate Glass, Philip Morris Con- solidated, Montgomary Ward “A,” Bell Telephone of Canada and Ainsworth. NEW YORK, December 15.—Cot- ton futures opened steady, 2 to 7 higher on favorable prospects for extension of the Bankhead act and better Liverpool cables. December, 12.61; January, 12.59; March, 12.63; May, 12.62; July, 12.62; October, 12.47. Houses with foreign conngctions were buyers at the opening and there was also a good trade demand and some scattered commission house buying. This was supplied by Southern sell- ing combined with realizing, but the market held very steady right after the call, with January selling up to 12.60 and May to 12.66, making net advances of 6 to 9 points on the active months. The market at the end of the first half hour was within a point or two of the best prices reached cn the opening demand. Reports indicating that farmers were voting heavily in favor of con- tinuing the Bankhead act next year found a reflection in the Liverpool market before the local opening and the closing quotations there were about 2 to 9 American points better than due on the New York close of Friday. There will be a celebration of the Holy Communion at 8 am. and at 9:30 the annual Christmas Manger service of the church school will be held, when scholars will bring their gifts of clothing and toys for less fortunate children.
