STOLL KONAPIG FUGTIE 1 SEN Hitchhikers Report Robin- son Was 18 Miles Away From Nashville. By the Assoclated Press. NASHVILLE, Tenn., November 26.— Police announced early today they had a report Thomas H. Robinson, jr., accused as the kidnaper of Mrs. Berry V. Stoll of Louisville for $50,000 ransom, was seen late Saturday in Franklin, Tenn, 18 miles from here. They said every effort was being made to capture the former university student who was reported to police as hitchhiking toward Nashville. Couple Saw Him. ‘Word that Robinson was seen came to police through C. B. Faris, a Nash- ville insurance agent, who telephoned the Nashville police last night from Huntsville, Ala.,, where he had gone on business. Police said Faris told them that, en route to Huntsville, he picked up two hitchhikers, a man and wife. Their story was that Robinson hitch- hiked with them Saturday from Eliza- bethtown, Ky. to Franklin, Tenn. They identified the man, Faris said, by Department of Justice pictures. Paid for Ride. “T don't have to hitchhike, but I prefer to do so,” they quoted the youth. He told them, they related, that he had plenty of money, that he had been in Chicago and was en route to Nashville, and would return to Chicago in a few days. The couple asserted to Faris that the man gave the truck driver with whom they were riding “two or three bills,” upon reaching Franklin. The couple, whose home is in Hunts- ville, related further that the man, carrying a suitcase, obtained a ride on another truck headed toward Nash- ville. A report that Thomas H. Robin- €on, jr., alleged kidnaper of Mrs. Alice Speed Stoll, had been seen at Frank- lin, Tenn., was characterized as “a bed-time story” today by J. Edgar Hoover, investigative chief for the De- partment of Justice. ROCHESTER APPLIES J0B INSURANCE IDEA Firms to Divide $75,000 Fund Among 6,500 Unemployed Clothing Workers. By the Assoclated Press.
