By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, August 16.—Electric P " | power consumption for the country last week was up 15 per cent as compared with a year ago. The gain was only a shade less than the 15.6 per cent rise peak improvement reported for period ended July 15. The week’s outturn, as reported by the Edison Electric Institute, amounted to 1.627.339.000 kilowatt hours against 1,650,013.000 in the preceding week and 1415,122,000 in_the corresponding period last year. The loss from the | week of August 5 was a seasonal reces- | slon, accentuated by some slowing down in industrial activity. In the major geographical regions, output gains over the previous year were substantially maintained around recent levels. The Central industrial district was up 21 per cent against 22.7 per cent in the previous week; Middle Atlantic up 10.8 against 12.8, and New England up 19.4 against 21.3. Southern States did slightly better with a 174 per cent rise against 17 per cent the week before.
