At night there will be a meeting, when members of the congregation will give their reminis- cences. The church was organized in the Co- lumbia Law Building on Fifth street northwest, May 31, 1868, by Rev. Dr. A. W. Pitzer. In June 1872 a chapel was begun at Third and Eye streets and completed in January, Here services were held for several years until a church was built at that same location in 1885. For 30 years this was the only church in the District of Co- lumbia " connected with the Southern Presbyterian General Assembly. Dr. Pitzer's Term. Dr. Pitzer continued as pastor until 1906, when he resigned and moved to Salem, Va. his early home. He was made pastor emeritus. In September, 1906, Rev. James H. Taylor was called as pastor and began the work in No- vember, 1906. Owing to the fact that many of the congregation were moving into the newer sections of the city, property was secured at Thirteenth and M streets. A portable chapel on this site. Later this property was disposed of and the site at the south- east corner of Fifteenth and Irving streets was secured. The chapel was moved to this location. ‘When President Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated he attended the church the first i y of his administration. In April, 1913, he wrote he and his family would attend the church regu- larly. Upon receipt of this letter Dr. Taylor conferred with President Wilson, telling him that the church had pur- chased property at Pfteenth and Six- teenth and Irving streets and planned to move to that location. President Wilson assured him of his interest and support in this plan. In October, 1913, work was begun on the new church building. Wilson Lays Corner Stone. December 19, 1913, President Wilson laid the corner stone of this new build- ing and made an address on that oc- casion. The building was completed in May, 1914 The pew occupied by Presi- dent Wilson is macked with a silver late. > On January 25, 1925, a tablet com- memorating the organization of the church and the membership of Presi- dent Wilson in the congregation of the church was unveiled by President Caivin Coolidge. A few years ago the property on Irving street adjacent to the church was acquired and in August, 1930, work was on the new Sunday school building. On Thanksgiving day, 1930, the corner stone of this Sunday school building was laid by President Herbert Hoover. Thus three Presidents in recent times have had some direct connection with the life of this church. This new building was completed in June, 1931. DR. G. W.
