WILL PAY TRIBUTE T SHAKESPEARE Services at Cathedral to Commemorate Birth of Poet. With the 369th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare falling on St. George's day, according o the church calendar, tomorrow, the great poet’s life and works will be com- memorated at the choral evensong service in the Great Choir of Wash- ington Cathedral at 4 o'clock. The address on the moral and spiritual values of Shakespeare’s works will be delivered by Representative James M. Beck of Pennsylvania. Invitations have been issued by the Cathedral au- thorities to college and high school faculty members and students to at- tend this unusual service. No cards of admission will be required and seats are ilable for a congregation of 1,500 people. Dr. William L. De Vries, canon and precentor of the Cathedral, has selected special music contemporaneous With the Elizabethan period, when “the Bard of Avon” wrote his plays. The offertory anthem will be an Easter sonnet by Edmund Spenser (1552- 1590), set to music by C. Armstrong Gibbs. Canon John W. Gummere will de- liver the sermon at the celebration of the holy communion in the Great Choir at 10:30 am. The special Easter music rendered on Easter Sunday morning will be repeated by the Ca- thedral choir of men and boys under the direction of Edgar Priest. There will be the usual celebration of the holy communion in the Bethlehem Chapel at 7:30 am. Pilgrimages for visitors who come to Washington for the post-Easter season will be held following the two services in the Great Choir. PLAN MASONIC NIGHT AT PETWORTH CHURCH Rev. The men’s club will hold the April meeting Wednesday evening, continu- ing the series on the theme, “Hear and Know Your Neighbor.” Instead of in- iting speakers from other groups, the club is having a series of addresses by 1ts own members on matteérs not gener- ally familiar. At this meeting Thomas Mears will give an address on “Travel- ing Thirty Million Miles a Year.” The mid-week service Thursday evening will take up a series of studies on “Our Church,” designed to assist new members to an understanding of the purpose and program of the Metho- dist Episcopal Church of today.
