CAPITAL MASONS VISIT WINCHESTER Join With Virginians in Bi-‘ oentennial Celebration—R. A. | Bogley Heads Delegation. Special Dispatch to The Star. WINCHESTER, Va., September 28.— Masons from Washington, D. C., and a score of cities and towns of Northern Virginia were here last night for the ‘Washington Bicentennial celebration of ‘Winchester Hiram Lodge. No. 21. All lodges of the Virginia jurisdiction are holding at least one Bicentennial cele- bration during the George Washington 200th birthday anniversary year. ‘The Winchester lodge, chartered in 1768, is one of the old in Virginia, and it conferred the Masonic degrees upon President William McKinley when he was here as an Ohio regiment major Jjust after the Civil War. Over 100 Masons came from Wash- ington, headed by Reuben A. Bogley grand master of the District of Colum- bia. Henry U. Milne, master of Poto- mac Lodge, No. 5, Washington. also ac- companied the delegation. About an- other 11 came from Virginia lodges, headed by their worshipful masters. Harry K. Green, Clarendon, grand master of Masons in Virginia, was the principal speaker, sketching the Ma- sonic career of George Washington and the influence the tenets of Freemasonry had on his life and acts. The grand master was presented by Rev. Dr. F. T. McFaden, Winchester, a past grand master of Virginia and pastor of Lou- doun Street Presbyterian Church. Harry M. Seabright, jr. master of Winchester lodge, presided over the celebretion. A buffet supper was served in the dining hall of the Masonic ‘Temple. Mosquitoes Killed by Pound. By the Assoclated Press. A “striking decrease” between 1920 and 1930 in the number of children from 10 to 19 years old who were gain- fully occupied was reported today by the Census Bureau. No reason was assigned by the bu- reau for its findings, which were in- cluded in a summary of the age, num- ber and sex of workers at the beginning and end of the 10-yesr period. In 1930, of 98,723,047 persons 10 years old or over, the bureau reported 48,829,- 920, or 49.5 per cent, gainfully occupled, as compared, respectively, with 82,739,- 315 and 41,614,248, or 50.3 per cent, in 1920. Of the number of workers in 1930, 1 6 boys and 720,723 girls between 10 and 17 were gainfully occupied, form- ing 149 per cent and 7.7 per cent of the total, as against 22.2 per cent and 11.8 per cent, respectively, in 1920. ‘The 18-year-old and 19-year-old divi- sion was slightly higher in 1930, total- ing 15599768 boys and 942445 girls, as compared with 1,443,968 and 802,235. Men outnumbered women workers three to one in each census, the report showing 38,077,804 men, or 76.2 per cent, and 10,752.116 women, or 22 per cent, in 1930. In 1920 there were 33,064,737, or 78.2 per cent, of the men gainfully oc- cupied and 8,549,511, or 21.1 per cent of the women, ‘The bureau reported that as 1,938,749, or 58.3 per cent, of the men 65 years old and over were gainfully occupied in 1930, this indicated “the majority of old men were not, as is sometimes stated, entirely destitute and dependent.” Heat Heightens Eiffel Tower. McClelland, president and general manager of the network, would become assistant to the president of N. B. C. Mr. Patterson assumes his new duties October 1, while Mr. McClelland steps into his new post immediately.
