ADMR. HUBBARD SUCCUMBS AT & Commander of Naval Force in Panama Revolution of 1903 Dies Here. Rear Admiral John Hubbard, U. S. Navy, retired, who commanded @he naval force cr the Isthmus of Pana- ma, during the revolution of November, 1903, which resulted in the indepen- dence of the State of Panama, is dead at his home, 1451 Belmont street. He passed away on Saturday at the age of 83 years. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. Admiral Hubbard was commander in chief of the U. S. Asiatic Fleet just prior to his retirement from the service in May, 1911, upon reaching the age of 62 years. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1870 and was pro- moted through the various grades until he attained the rank of rear admiral in 1908, During the revolution in Panama in 1903 he was in command of the U. 8. S. Nashville. During the cruise of the battleship fleet around the world Admiral Hubbard was the com- manding officer of the U. 8. 8. Minne- sota. Later he was on special duty at the Navy Department and was a member of the General Board. Al- Admiral Hubbard had 24 o( sea service. The admiral was born in South Berwick, Me., on May 19, 1849, but was )ppoln'-od to the service from Arizona. For a number of year Admiral Hubbard was a mem- ber of the Metropolitan Club here. MRS. ELIZABETH WINE DIES IN SAN FRANCISCO Widow of Louis D. Wine Was Visiting Son in West—Had Lived Here Since 1803. Mrs. Elizabeth B. Wine, widow of Louis D. Wine of this city, died sud- denly last week at the home of her son, Louls D. Wine, in San Franclsco, where she had been visiting for several months. She is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth W. Wllk!‘r, 1701 Upshur street. Born in Gettysburg, Pa, Mrs. Wine had been a Washington resident since her marriage in 1893. Her husband, at the time of his death, was a member of the real estate firm of B. F. Warner & Co, and a dlrecwr in the Washing- ton Loan & Trust Co. THE EVENING STAR.
