Some idea of the comparative bright- ness of the freshmen who entered vari- ous educational institutions last Fall is contained in a tabulation of the results of the American Council on Educagion’s psychological examination just issued for 152 of the 377 colleges which | gave it. { Haverford College, Haverford, Pa., led with & median gross score of 241.67. Only three other institutions scored above 200. They were Wells College, Aurora, N. Y., 213.89; Dartmoyth Col- lege, Hanover, N. H., 206.67, and Uni- vernty of Chicago, 202.21. Goucher Col- lege, Baltimore, scored 199.00. Some significant differences in some of the separate tests are shown for men and women. On the completion test the women make slightly higher scores than the men. On the artificial lan- | guage test the women do considerably better, with a median score 10.5 higher than the men. On the analogies test there is no dif- ference between the performances of the two groups. On the arithmetic test the men do considerably better than the women, the difference in median scores being nine points. On the opposites test the favor of the women. The scores of the five tests are so weighted that they can be combined into a gross score for the whole exami- nation. The tabulation just issued is on reports of 41,369 students. When all institutions have reported the total is expected to contain 165341 students’ cores.
