Prepared to protést the proposed automobile excise tax, leading figures in the automotive world will appear before the House Ways and Means Com- mittee Saturday to present their case The proposal- before the House com- mittee provides & tax of 5 per cent on all new automobiles, 3 per cent for trucks and 2!, per cent on tires, parts and accessories 1t is estimated that this would mean an imposition of $25 for cvery car, and this tax, it is contended, is more than the budget of the average car buyer can stand Wide Effects Feared. “The grounds upon which Congress will be asked to forego imposition of the tax begin _with the inevitab'e far- reaching effect it would have upon all classes in every State,” it was explained in a statement in behalf of the Na- tional Automobile Chamber of Com- merce, which is in the forefront of the fight.
