King, a resident of Arlington | County for more than 40 years, who | was nearing the century mark, died at |the residence of his son-in-iaw and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Williamson C. | Welburn, last night from minor injuries received in a fall while on a vacation Jast September 13. Since receiving the fall he had been confined to his bed. Maj. King was a retired United States Government em- ploye, having served in the Department | of Agriculture for 35 years, during which | time he was chief of the seed division 19 and a clerk in the Bureau of Statistics. He was born on a farm near Geneseo, Livingston County, N. Y. October 5, 1832. He was a Clvil War veteran, having served in the Hospital Corps and was one of the founders of Potomac Grange, No. 1., being its first secretary and later succeeding the late Norman J. Coleman, the first Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, as master in 1889. ; Maj. King, who was an authority on farming, having been a writer for many farm journals and a former editor of the agricultural page of the Washington Post, associate editor of the Farm and Fireside and Colman's Rural World of St. Louis, Mo. He always attributed his many years and health to good, clean, wholesome out-of-door life. BETHESDA, Md., January 11.—Leon- ard Marsden, 45, of Auburn avenue, Woodmont, who wes injured when struck by an automobile while walking near his home here Christmas night, died at Georgetown University Hospital Saturday night Police here stated today that no fur- ther investigation of the case is planned, as doctors at the hospital would not state that the injuries he received in the accident were the cause of death, as Mr. Marsden was operated on for other trouble while at the hospital. His injuries at the time of the accident were given as a possible fracture of the skull and a fractured leg According to police, Marsden was struck by an automobile driven by Wil- liam L. Morrison of Wilson = lane, Bethesda. Morrison told them, police said, that Marsden stepped in front of his ‘ear_on Wilson lane snd that he was unable to stop in time to avoid hit- ting him.
