James G. Shaw, the arbitrator, tried vainly to brush away the revolver be- fore Ragonetti’s first shot climaxed the conference. As Colgan fell, Shaw grap- pled with Ragonetti, who fired a second time and again struck Colgan. Breaking away, Ragonetti stepped back a few paces and fired a shot into his own head. He was taker to a hos- pital in a critical condition. Shaw was not injured, nor were Mar- tin or Samuel Wexler, attorneys, or Peter Wurchman, accountant, vho wit- nessed the slaying. They said the conference had been under way only a few moments when Ragonett{ accused Colgan of appro- priating partnership funds to his own use. Colgan denied the charge and re- plied that he could explain the finances. “This has gone far enough” ex- claimed Ragonetti, drawing the weapon Colgan several {imes had been a wit- ness before the Legislative Committee City affair: | deacon of Amissville Baptist Church | Julia Frances Luttrell; five sons and two VIRGINIA ORCHARDIST DIES Special Dispatch to The Star.
