LEONARDTOWN, Md., December 19. —St. Marys will be gay this Yuletide season as many festivities are being lanned. The numerous homes will eep open house and their owners en- tertain in true old Southern Maryland fashion. On Christmas night a dance Will be given by the Leonardtown Vol- unteer Fire Department; on the night after Christmas the Women's Auxiliary of the St. Marys Hospital will hold its annual dance and card party, and on New Year's eve the annual ball will be given by the Women's Auxiliary of All Saint’s Protestant Episcopal Church of | Oakley, in their church hall. The Bushwood Fox Hunting Club has | | been holding an interesting number of | hunts around Budd's Creek and Chap- tico way, during the week, Master of Hounds Edmund J. Plowden, jr. con- ducting them, with his 27 thoroughbred hunting hounds leading the field. On Friday the chase was started from the estate of Judge T. B. Carpenter, at Budd's Creck, at 4 o'clock, and lasted until 8 o'clock, with some 20 hunters taking part. The fox was started at Budd's Creek and ran to Ryceville and later to New Market, and the brush was obtained by Mr. Joseph Hill. Following the chase the entire field was enter- tained at breakfast by Judge Carpen- | ter, who held an oyster roast for them. DROOPS Another hunt was held on Sunday morning. just below Budd's Creek, | starting at 5:30 o'clock with 15 riders and the fox after circling around Chap- tico and Budd's Creek for almost four hours was caught at Middleton, and the | bush was obtained by the master of hounds. Other hunts will be held by the club throughout the Winter, with the major- ity of them being held from Budd's Creek to Rock Point, around the head of the Wicomico River country, where still remain the old fashioned wooden fences that the horses and dogs can clear easily and not lose the fox or in- jure themselves in clearing, and quite an added advantage, the land is level and one can see the dogs and fox far away in the chases. Friday evening Dr. Frank A. Camalier, of Leonardtown, entertained at a stag supper at Tudor Hall Inn, in honor of Dr. John A. Sherry of Dublin, Ireland.
