It contains six size and two smaller vottles. Each bottle is trimmed in gold, but the wine, alas. long ago dis- appeared. Frank J. LONDON, October 12.—The peaceful demonstration of Great Britain's civil | servants against reductions in their salaries was described by. police today | as’ the greatest within memory. It was estimated that 100,000 per- sons—men, women and children—were in the orderly parade that moved along the banks of the Thames to Hyde Park to listen to a dozen addresses yester- | day. It required an hour to pass a given point and hundreds of mounted and foot police were required to regu- late traffic. They marched to the music of 20 bands and to the waving of hundreds of banners. The tune was “When the Flag Goes Marching By,” and their signs read, “Pestmen See Red,” “Stop Cutting Our Wages and Keep the Eighth Commandment in Force” and | “Serve, Yes; Serf, No.” They spoke few words and let their mass presence | tell the story. A concomitant Communist manifest- | ation was not as peaceable. Many of them broke out of line and hurled threats at spectators in homes and hotels, keeping the police in continual turmoll. They carried flags bearing the | Soviet ‘sickle and hammer and sang “Internationale” a Socialist and “The Red anthem. They ou'll be with us s0on, too, brother! Later thousands of radicals and un- employed sang of world revolution out- side the walls of Wormwood Scrubbs Prison. Inside a convict chorus set up an answering refrain which echoed eerlly in the first fog of Autumn.
