The prices of raw silk, wool and silver have dropped two points lower than they have been at any time during the century. Cotton is lower than it has been in 16 years. Despite the fact that prices of raw materials have declined, the American standard of living has been protected by well maintained wage scales. Nevertheless, the prices of finished goods are lower than they have been in many years; too low for the producers of raw materials, for whose prosperity we wish as eagerly as we do for our own.
