Buck, 71, & pioneer in the electrotype industry, died Saturday at his home, 812 Rittenhouse street. He had been a resident of Washington for 36 years, and had been actively con- nected with church affairs all his life. At the time of his death he was lay reader in Rock Creek Parish and superintend- ent of the Sunday school of the Holy Comforter Chapel on Georgia avenue. His father, John H. Buck, was an educator, and was president of Union College, Pa. His mother was from an old Maryland family. He was married in 1884 to Ida Belle Rogers, daughter of Robert F. Rogers, of Anne Arundel County, Md. Came From Baltimore. Mr. Buck came to Washington in 1895 from Baltimore where, as a young man, grep-red the first wax disc phono.rlp record, in collaboration with Eniile Berliner, the inventor. He started In the electrotyping in dustfy when only 16 years of age, and was instrumental in developing the nickel process of electrotyping to its present perfection. He was in the Pindustry 54 years, and was considered onfi of the foremost in his business. e was a member of the Myron M. Parker Lodge, F. A. A. M., and Eureka Chapter, R. A. M, and for 10 years he was a trustee for the lodge on the Masonic Board of Relief. From this position he resigned about two years ago because of failing health. Funeral Rites Set.
